Have over a thousand MP3 files, and not one has an ID3 tag...need help

I have ripped most of my cd's onto my computer using Nero 5.5. Virtually all the disks did not have ID3 tags attatched to the songs. So I chose to enter the artist name, and album title manually during the ripping process. That was fine, the titles show up in Windows Media Player, so no need to have ID3 tags attached... However, now I have an mp3 player, and it will only give me the names from songs that have ID3 tags attached. It still plays them, but it would be nice to see the name displayed on the screen. Can anybody help me with this? I tried some software, "ID3 Master," that I found from a shareware site. Supposedly, you can create id3 tags for your files with it, but it was buggy and crashed all the time and I never did get it to work.

What I want to do is rename all the files in my Music Library so that they are in the ID3 Tag Format. I will buy "Tag Creation" software, if anybody knows a good one, OR free Tag creation soft ware is even better! I just seem to be having a hard time finding what I am looking for on the web, all of the shareware is just for EDITING ID3 tags. And since mine dont have tags yet, this does not help me.

Do the mp3's have a standard format for the name? Like Artist - Song.mp3 or Artist - Track - Song.mp3? If that's the case, I could code you a tiny app to add the ID3 V1 and/or V2 tags. I've already done something similar for two other people.

Just finished applying ID3 tags to my music files. Used the aformentioned http://www.id3-tagit.de/ software. Worked like a charm. Very clean interface, looks like Windows Explore. And easy to use, I went through about 800 songs in less than an hour. However, I did not type in each individual name of songs, just batched album titles together. Creating individual song titles will have to wait for some other time.

Thanks to HJB417! I appreciate the link, and would recomend the app to any of you who have to supply ID3 tags to you mp3 files.
