it happened so many times today, opening the door for people and having them go through without saying thanks or thank you.......

When I'm in a pissy mood and get frustrated with people, I say "You're welcome" pretty loudly to make it obvious that they've been pretty rude.

Yeah, it's been a while since I honestly expect people to say thank you...when they do, I'm surprised, and when they don't, I'm still pissed. Sometimes I say something, sometimes I don't.

a thank you is a polite thing to do, but it isn't required. if you did someone a favor, and then got angry because they didn't say thanks, then you probably don't deserve to be thanked. it makes it seem like you did a favor only because you wanted recognition for it.

edit: i think something more meaningful than saying thank you is a simple "hello" to people you may or may not know if you're walking by them. its completely unexpected by most people, and they become a lot friendlier if you do it.

I get thank-you's from chicks and older people. Maybe one guy compared to 50 chicks would say thanks. None of that bothers me. If they say nothing, that doesn't really bother me either since I was opening the door for myself as well, it's not like I went out of my way and altered the course of my life and not heard recognition for it. Jesus..

I've had that happen to me a few times. Doesn't really bother me much though. I didn't hold the door for a thank you. I did it to be nice. If they want to thank me then ok. If they don't, then that's ok too.

DO IT ANYWAY

People are often unreasonable, illogical,
And self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you
Of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some
False friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank;
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis
it is between you and God
It was never between you and them anyway.

Whenever I hold the door for someone or whatever that would normally reciprocate a thank you and I dont hear one. I always say LOUDLY.. "Oh, you dont have to thank me, it was my pleasure!" Gets my point across. They normall turn around and give a look.

If I ever met someone like you, I would not only apologize profusely for the error of my ways, but in order to continue wasting your time for acting prissy, I would humbly express the gratitude flowing from my heart in response to your selfless and sacrificial act of...

...holding open a freaking door...

Just think. It could be worse. Not saying thank you isn't nearly as bad as giving you a cold look and saying, "I'll get my own door, thank you very much." I got one of those the other day, to which I responded, "I'm fully aware that you're capable of opening doors. Please don't be offended by my attempt to be courteous. In the future, I will allow you to hold the door open for me."
