I had done months of research and was starting to slowly buy parts, to help wiht the budget. I have bought some parts from Newegg over the past couple of months. I was waiting on the motherboard to lower in price (GIG GA-MA69GM-S2H) (AMD AM2 board) and they deactivated it. Guess you can't wait in this business, things become old fast.

NO GAMING. I might decide to do some video transfering(editing) from my camcorder to my DVD's. Other than that just normal home use.

Anyway what I have so far is:
1. A nice big case for standard ATX or smaller
2. Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
3. SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD Burner
4. Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
5. Antec earthwatts EA430 430W ATX12V v2.0 Power Supply 100

Very small budget. My original plan was $200.00 or less for both board and processor combined.

Should I stick with AMD or go with the Intel chips? Its been about 5 months since I have roamed the forums and prices probably have dropped. Anyway thanks for your help.

I have a GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 socket board that I bought from new egg for my desktop system. I could have gone with a Intel chip set and CPU. But at the time I was also on a tight budget. It is not the fastest system, as you know Intel outperforms AMD on the chip set and the CPU. However, I have been very happy with it. Performs nicely on everything I want it to do, even some games I play every once in a while. It really is a matter of personal taste. If you are looking for top performance and can not live without it than go with Intel. If you are not and want to save a few bucks and still have a good running system than go with AMD. Just my thoughts!

I had finally decided on the GIGABYTE GA-MA78G-DS3H, but now it is already not sold on newegg(deactiviated). Anyone have anymore ideas on something close to that board. My price is under $100.00. Thanks Dave

Assuming you're still undecided on your CPU and brand, here's a little Intel based combo:
MoBo: Foxconn with an integrated Geforce 7050
CPU: E5200 goodness
Mobo ($45) + CPU ($83) = $127 with a nicely powered CPU that won't hold you back.

I just did a budget AMD build. Although I was going with a small case (MATX) and low power (quiet). I got a GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2HP. I think the only diff between that one and the Giga board you were looking at was sideport mem. I got it a couple of weeks ago for $69 that was it was $5 less than today and had a $10 rebate. I was going to go with the Foxxcon 780g but it was OOS when I went to place my order. I really happy so far with the GIGA board.

here are the eggs top seller 780g boards.

It looks like today the Foxconn is the lowest price. As far as processors.... It really depends on your price point and if the egg has a daily deal on one or another. I weant with a 45w 5050e because I was going quiet and needed a low power unit. This cpu seems to be a good one.
