Im not talking about being optimistic. It just occured to me that I've been doing this all my life. I remember when I was a young teen, I was thinking HS would be so great, I'd make tons and tons of friends, have parties everyday, always having fun, etc. Then when I got a job I thought I'd just blow my money on anything i wanted, cool stuff for my room, etc. Then when I was moving on to college I'd think the same thing about college, except I'd be meeting really cool people and I could meet some chicks. Now Iam in college and Iam thinking that I'll find a job, make lots of money, do some of the fun stuff then get married. Each and every single time my expectation was wrong. How can I fix this?

I've always just set lower expectations for what happens at those kinds of milestones (not that you should be taking the advice of a 15-year-old).

Ive always been realistic, and am happy with everything in my life. I havent turned out the way i saw myself at 19.... but am more than happy with who I am, what [little] i do, and what i have.

Maybe you're getting too caught up in seeing life as a destination rather than a journey.

It seems that always when I think there's still hope, people come and take it away from me. I could name at least 20 cases of that happening.

Maybe you just have a little "the grass is greener.." complex going on? Just remember you have to make things happen, weither they are good or bad, things just dont happen for no reason.

Need the chicks well before the wife...haha.
College is a blast, best years of your life...go out meet people, get drunk, do crazy things, wake up the next day feeling like crap; yet wanting to do it all over again. It's good to have personal goals, but that's not all inclusive...enjoy life to the fullest. Don't try to grow up too fast or you'll miss out on all the fun things along the way, you need those crazy stories to tell the boys at the retirement villiage. Heh.

That just means that you are healthy psychologically. Actually, depressed people have a much more accurate view of themselves than non-depressed people. Optimism is a healthy defense mechanism.

Statistically, as you get older sex becomes more expensive. On the other hand as you get older you also generate more money.

The journey's the thing...

Pause... enjoy your life as it unfolds... take a minute to take a random drive in your car and reflect on all the wonderful things in your life...

Stop looking at things in terms of "better"... look at it as... wonderful things are coming... be excited about them.. but don't rush at them... enjoy the journey

some great advice in this thread
I used to be an optimist, but now having just graduated college and hit a brick wall in my life, I'm a pessimist (though not to the extent of being depressed)

I've always been like that and I don't really know why. I think a lot of people of idealistic views of their futures.
