yep a few times, most notably being dragged out of a burning building because I was passed out from smoke inhalation by my best friend. 3rd degree burns on 80% of feet and had to relearn how to walk. The pain of treatment and PT made me wish he'd just left me there, not something I'd ever wish on anyone.

I fell asleep at the wheel once. I woke up almost instantly and nothing bad happened, but it could have just as easily gone the other way.
.
I did that about 50 times one night between Kitzbuhel and Frankfurt.

Wow, that's poor defensive driving.

Maybe, but it was during my first few years of learning the ins and outs of not getting killed on a motorcycle. It was raining, so I really couldn't tell that the person wasn't stopping until it was way too late for me to do anything.

Trust me, I put a lot of hours into thinking about that situation, and if I had pulled forward it would've probably been to the left..... which means I would've gotten hit trying to avoid it.

Always, always, always, leave yourself a way out.
When I stop, I am always aimed in the direction I need to go if someone behind me doesn't stop. I may swap paint with the vehicles but that beats getting rear ended.

Fell off a 2nd floor fire escape (~30 feet), maced & jumped by 4 guys, and one hit by a minor league baseball player in the chest with a bat. I walked, slept it off.

Also, not really "almost death" but I had a brick thrown at my head when I chased someone who stabbed my brother in law a few times. It missed me by an inch.

I miss being young...lol

Various near misses in cars.

Fell out of a tree when I was up really high up as a kid, hit a bunch of branches, caught myself halfway down. Didn't phase me and I still climbed trees growing up (although I am now deathly afraid of being on ladders or balconies or whatnot)...

Undertow kept me pinned underwater for a nice long time (no idea how long). I fought and fought and reached surface for an explosive gulp of air.
[edit]Did some research and I guess undertow and rip-currents do not cause people to become stuck underwater. I can not explain why I was pinned and had to fight to break surface (and I did know which way was up).

Fell into near frozen water, I got out fine but it was a bitch to warm back up afterwards.

Several close attempts with electricity including a 220 line that really scared me.

Jumped a fence and impaled my knee into a tomato pole. Could have easily hit somewhere vital. Didn't hurt at all and barely bled when I removed it. Nice scar.

I am sure I am forgetting some.

It was a time when abandoned buildings were all over The Bronx. Street lamps and no lighting, liquor and drugs were common. So were fights. It didn't help that I am Indian, and to this day, people think I am a mark. People would think they could mess with me and get an easy win.

It's quite annoying. Many on this forum probably think I'm a real pussy, I'm sure.

when I was first learning to drive stick, I made a left turn and forgot to downshift, stalled out with an incoming semi, but managed to get restart and zip out of the way. My mom was in the passenger seat and about had a heart attack

Almost drowned playing near a river during a picnic when I was 9-10 years old (didn't know how to swim). Luckily, a stranger heard my cries and rescued me.

Was caving and in a section of tunnel between 2 mountains called "The Connection" cavers called it the Agony. It was about 200 feet slightly uphill from our side. Average size was 22" wide and 18" high. I made it 10 feet and hit the only spot in it that opened up into an area where you could turn around. In that 10 feet I had gotten wedged twice. Seems I am not fit for caves of that size. Im 6"4 250..... Had I tried it the only way I was making it was to perish and be pulled through as a bag of bones.

Yes.

I was in the Army, deployed to Iraq. I was pulling security on an alley, down the street from another alley some guy stepped out with an RPG and pointed it right at me from about 80ish meters away. My buddy was in the turret on the .50 and saw the guy. Gave him a nice long burst, damn near cut him in half. His guts were splattered all over the wall behind him. Had he been half a second slower on that trigger the rocket would have been in the air and flying straight at me.

Yes, on two occasions. Here's hoping there isn't a third. I have boys to raise now.

yeah.

i was a couple inches (maybe feet) from being smashed by a drunk driver as he slammed into the median of an expressway

--buddies and I were sitting against the concrete barrier after the dude driving our car (leaving concert late at night, dumbass driver, go figure), slammed his camaro into the back of a pickup that had broken down in the left lane of the highway. It was at the end of a curve, so a blind spot. Luckily, the pickup driver got out of the way before our car hit him (he was trying to push his truck into the center median).

3 of us were just icing out sitting on that barrier, as emergency crews were arriving. i start thinking, "damn we're still at the end of this curve....this might be a bad spot to be sitting."

Sure enough, a few seconds later, some sedan comes careening towards us. I pull my legs in--might have lost them had I not--and he smashes into the wall just beyond the 3rd person sitting on the wall. That friend freaks out, of course, and tries to hurdle the wall and run across the other side of oncoming traffic. We have to wrestle him down.

the driver of the sedan was found an hour or so later running through the woods, with a bloody forehead. He fled the car after the crash, blood on his steering wheel.

I almost got into a car accident that would have demolished me.

I was driving down a completely unfamiliar road. It was weird because the road was divided into 4 sections. 2 lanes go one way, 2 lanes go the other way. However, every single lane was separated from each other by a barrier much like a barrier for a normal 2 lane road.

I, being retarded, was on the outside lane and was attempting to make a completely legal left turn. However, I reflexively only looked to the right to see if there was oncoming traffic, and the road was completely empty.

As soon as I start making a turn, a car came barreling down the road at 60+, on a 35 mph road, and swerved right past my left side. He was so close, that my car actually shook from the wake of the car.

If I had been further out, he would have T boned me right into the drivers seat. My mom damn near almost died of a heart attack. I just laughed.

woah dude that was crazy! Glad she is fine now and they figured it out. Were there any long term complications for her?

She's pretty much 90% now. Motor skills are fine but the only issues are some minor persistent headaches and she can't lower her head to the ground (working out/stretching) too fast or it hurts.

It was pneumonia that caused it for the two of you who asked. I was in a medicine induced coma for about a month. Total stay in the hospital was almost 3 months, and it took me a couple of weeks to even walk again due to muscle atrophy of laying in an ICU bed. I came out fine except for a pinched nerve.

My girlfriend at the time was a nurse and she was there more than my family taking care of me which was really nice. She also saved my life by taking me to the hospital. Unfortunately we didn't work out (mostly my fault).

P.S. I only paid 2k of that 440k due to good insurance.
