I almost got banned from a forum several days ago when the forum admin thought I might be hacking other users. He was admittedly skeptical, but I was convincing enough that he remained concerned and made his strongest threat AFTER I spilled the beans and told him all about how the other forum members were in on the joke and were giving me the info that I was supposedly stealing off their HDDs. He deleted the thread because he thought the corrupted text inside was corrupting his whole forum when that was actually just it inside my user profile (like Ichinisan here). It really did break the formatting of almost the whole forum once he tried to censor it: each character was replaced with multiple asterisks and, well, I'm in about half of that forum's total threads.
So that it would be more convincing, I recruited other forumers by PM only AFTER they displayed genuine skepticism. I used call-outs to draw in people I knew would come on board with the joke and used real-world examples to refute skepticism, like how a working Nintendo 64 game released by Titannik could infect PCs with a PC virus and how the NX bit only turns that kind of thing into a DOS attack unless you target a different programmable resource: The GPU. When someone would say something like "ha ha. yea right. messed up words equal hack? ha ha ha," I'd point out that Comex, et all used a framebuffer injection exploit to have the 2010 userland iPhone jailbreak persist after a reboot after first setting up with the PDF exploit on jailbreakme.com (IOW, it was the jailbreak's "untether" trick). You can see the strange-colored dots on the Apple-logo boot screen that should have a simple black background.
The thread used the crazy characters Ichinisan uses here all in the title: "Hello, [user]. Things looking a little strange on your access devices?" with a message like "Well, I wouldn't know a thing about that *shiftyeyes*" with another line of crazy character beneath it spilling over to cover the line above. The next post was a mention function for that user (he gets a notification) with some even weirder characters spilling out of the post area vertically, top and bottom. Once I saw that he had read the thread but not responded, I posted again.
Damn. He took the bait and read the thread and I successfully overflowed the stack to attain code execution with escalated privileges and injected my backdoor payload on his system, but his HDD doesn't seem to have much more than a bunch of video editing projects and photo-dumps. BORING. I'm sick of looking at dog pictures and uneventful bike videos. Plenty of collateral damage though: algs26, [you], Old Lemon, hirubhaiambani, UPappas90, Monkeytofu, RatherUneek, adouglas, kevheads
Who's drive contents should I examine next?
He's known for recording EVERYTHING on his motorcycle rides from every possible angle (rides with multiple cameras) and he frequently talks about his dogs and posts pictures, videos, etc. The list of users came from the list of who had read the thread minus me and minus the targetted user but PLUS a [you] tag, which shows the username of whoever is reading the post on that forum. Of course, this drew the target back to post/refute. He has taken a lot of flak for doing things like censoring his speedometer the day of his accident, so he gave me a sample of his speedometer from the video just before the accident to "leak" and pretend that I stole, but only after a back-and-forth we had planned involving less damning videos.
