I was fired in a very unfair manner.

It is still to this day causing me great financial harm.

There is a thread in ATOT about it somewhere.

Not yet, but only worked for one company so far not counting student jobs while I was in school. Started off at help desk.. pretty hard to screw up at that job. Even had a guy rage out and smash his keyboard and he was not fired (think he got written up though).

Then I moved to L3 server tech at the local hospital. My real boss was nice but the IT manager there, technically my second boss, was an asshole, and I'm sure he tried to get me fired on many occasions, he's just that type of person, a backstabber. Everything was always our fault. Even stuff that was a complete outside factor, like someone forgetting their password and causing a patient to die since they can't get in the system. At least 1 hour per day he'd come in the office and soap box us on how everything we did is wrong and how we should have done it. Had weekly meetings too that was basically the same thing.

A few years of dealing with that BS I was looking for a way out, but wanted to try staying for the same company given I've been accumulating a pension, seniority etc... don't want to start over. A NOC position came out, it sounded interested but lot of the telco side stuff was over my head, but decided to apply anyway. Been over a year now and I don't regret it one bit. The shift work is nice too, this is like a retirement job. Nice boss too. Would have to screw up pretty badly to get written up, let alone fired.

Those are called Blamestorming sessions. You see, you're not brainstorming an idea or to solve a problem. You blamestorm!

I nominate Red Squirrel for the blame, who's with me!

I got fired from a pizza place job when I was a teenager. I'm a pretty awful waiter and I didn't really want to do it. I wasn't to broken up about it, the hours sucked and I sucked at the job frankly.

And I was laid off from a job as a computer tech one summer in college. They hired me and offered me an insulting wage but I took it since I wanted the experience and figured it would beat stocking shelves. They hired me and another guy. Right after I started I noticed there was basically no work already for the senior techs and I went to meetings where they were talking about restructuring their massive debt (I still don't even know why I was privy to this since I did not work in the finance department) and I ended up being stuck doing data entry of old ass work orders. After maybe a month I was laid off because they couldn't afford to keep me. Why they hired two new techs in the first place I have no idea. The company folded maybe 2-3 years later and this was before the dot bomb went off so they couldn't even blame that.

Yep.

Got fired for not kissing enough ass in an IT job. Some people didn't respect me and so I didn't respect them. You give me sass then I'll give it right back. Treat me right and I'll be sweet to you too.

Apparently, some people have never heard of the golden rule.

EDIT: I wanted to get fired from this job for about 4 months before I got fired. (Just to give you an idea)

To this day...never. Never laid off either. I either quit or it was temporary.

Never fired. I'm really good with people, honest, and hard working. I've managed asshole bosses before with tact.

You don't understand! I'm good with people! The engineers aren't good with people!

I take the specs from the engineers to the people, I fax the specs to the customer! I'm good with people! What the hell is wrong with you people!

At my first job out of college, after about 2 years of working there I asked for a raise, the executive director heard about it and told me I had 4 weeks to get something else.

I found something that paid better and knocked out some certs while I was there. I moved onto a networking job a few years later and ran into my previous boss. I actually thanked him for letting me go and told them that I was making about 3 times the money I was making when I worked for them. He said that he wasn't happy about how the upper management acted but was glad things worked out. He also said that after I left they went through about 4 operations managers, and that it wasn't me it was really the executive director running people off.

I'll be honest here since I'm a little tipsy.

I've been held on retention, guaranteed 6 months salary from one job, keep my stock options as I assisted in the take over...I was "let go" from purchasing company after I completed the transition....they couldn't afford me.

Had another job lined up with 25k bonus, full stock options 14 days after that contract ended, all lined up before that one ended.

I've technically never "quit" a job. Having 3 paychecks for 6 months is kinda sweet. I have since exercised all options from all 3 jobs and kindly just sit on those.

Do not EVER resign from a job, ever unless you're guaranteed due comensation.

Yea a two jobs ago I got fired. It was a small company, only 5 employees when I started and around 9 or 10 when I left. Found out one of the married owners was dirty video chatting with one of the sales girls during the work day. I knew, he knew I knew, and shit got bad for me after that. They pretty much looked for ways to fire me after that. It was an OK place to work for a few years, but then just got ridiculous. Went on to a better job, then moved states and onto an even better job. So glad I got out of that place when I did.

Yep...I tend to be a pretty insubordinate bastard...I've never been afraid to tell a sumbitch that he's a sumbitch...but I've never been fired "for cause," such as failure to do my job properly, for "laying out," or any other non-performance type of issue.

Never fired, but I did quit a job that I was completely failing at, so I consider that the same thing.

When I was 17 was working for a Food Processing facility. Just Googled them and they are still a huge Corporation.

My parents came to work to pick me up because my Grandfather had just died.

The Manager was a woman and she said that unless it was my own Funeral if I left I was fired.

Aren't you forgetting another time(one of many) that you were fired?

Yes, but it was intentional, and I already had a job lined up at the time.

Does the plant shutting down and booting us all out (with severance) count as a "firing"?

that would be a layoff, a firing would indicate that you did or did not do something to cause yourself to be without a job.

I've been fired once. Sent a work email to a couple of co-workers that I hung out with outside of work, the email contained a lot of sex jokes, non-work appropriate type of stuff. They laughed, good time was had, we went on with our lives.

About a month later, one of the two whom I had sent the email accidentally left her computer unlocked before she went home. One of the older ladies came in early the next morning, noticed it unlocked and went through her email. She found the one I had sent a month prior and forwarded it on to a boss a couple of levels up.

I was immediately suspended without pay for a week. They let me come back after that week and scheduled a meeting with me that following Friday. Completely shocked me when they walked me out the door. They then spoke with the two others who had received the email and asked if they knew I was sending them the email. They didn't know I had been walked out and thought they were protecting me by saying yes. They were given 2 or 3 chances to say no, but they didn't know any better. They were both walked out as well.

Really, really shitty day. Was also a shitty job, so it makes for a good story now over a decade later.

No one said anything about another employee going through someone else's email when it wasn't their job?

Not yet...

Although I doubt I'd be fired outright in my current position. I'm a technical resource for a sales force. The offices I'm assigned to are really struggling, which is the result of a number of factors. So I might end up being laid off if things continue to go as they have.
