I was fired by my own dad during summer break from college.

It was pretty great. I had excess federal loans at a really low interest rate. Had more free time and no real need for the extra $$$ at that age. Also, working for or with family sucks.

Yes, and was taken completely by surprise. Was told "It just didn't work out," and at the time I was befuddled. Looking back, they were completely right and I'm glad I'm gone from there. Devastating, though.

I've fired 3 people. It is one of the hardest things I've had to do as a manager.

I've been on the verge of firing 3 people but was clear enough that they weren't meeting expectations that they quit before I had to. At my old company it was damn near an act of Congress to fire for incompetency (required at least 2 consecutive poor quarterly performance reviews along with weekly meetings during that 6 month period). You could get fired for actions or not showing up to work but not for general lack of competence.

I was let go because my boss didn't do the correct paperwork to account for some time off. He approved it, but didn't submit it to HR, and so I got extra "points" that I shouldn't have and they fired me. I had the union look into it, and HR found the paperwork, took off my points, and offered my job back.

I didn't take it because it was 3 months later and I had already found a new job, but I made them pay me for those 6 days my boss had approved, but never recorded with HR.

only doing part time while in high school. I was just doing data entry and being a kid I only cared about speed rather than accuracy. They didn't tell me I was fired, they just never called me to come back.

Yeah it sucks. I've fired two people and laid off two more and it's never easy.

haha I remember the day my manager had to tell everyone in the department we're getting a 15% pay cut. It was the same call that he asked how I was doing and I just told him I'm a new dad to twins. Thanks a lot for the pay reduction!

I hear ya. I tried TM a few times and it sucked every time. The pressures are great on everyone because no one likes being cold called! The worst one was when I was 16 I tried this worthless fly-by-night outfit that promised the moon.

They were nothing but a bunch of liars, thieves, drug users and evil doers. They spiked the coffee with amphetimines, cheated people out of commissions, and were shady as hell. I told them I was going to lunch and never came back.

*cough*BULLSHIT*cough*

Yeah, I call shens on that one. Amphetamines are expensive.

You mentioned it so here goes. Yes, I dont know what was in that coffee but that was my only guess. But I dont know what else could have been in there. This was 1986 and I was 16, I had coffee before but never had half a cup (4 ounces?) made my head spin, heart pound and mind race like that. There was also a slight sense of elation.

Again, this was over 25 years ago and I 'worked' there less than five hours without pay. These people were criminals in a seedy part of town running a coupon book scam. They placed an attractive ad in the local newspaper, brought in dupes, felons and suckers (like me), made you fill out an ap, get a 30 min pep talk about how much money we would make than gave us a box full of phone lists to call.

We read from scripts and there was not much motivation until "coffee" was ready. The regulars were first in line and initially I was going to do without when one of the 'supervisors' brought me a cup. After that cup, I was quite motivated and made tons of calls and (possibly) a few sales. I say possibly because when I went to go check they said nobody answered the door at delivery to the sales I did make. All of them? Yeah right. Thats when I had no doubt in my mind it was a scam. Another guy who was with me in the office was told the same thing and he bit his tongue before starting to cuss out loud down the hall.

During our collective break time, the supervisors encouraged us to pick a card to gamble any current or future sales we might have made. So stupid.

I told them I was going to lunch and never came back.

So this week, we've learned that you are a druggie and you pirate stuff from the internets. As usual, you completely fail at being a proper Christian.

This.

Hell, for one I got a 30 minute paycheck. I had no clue what I was walking into and walked out after 30 minutes of realizing how screwed I was.

I think thats when I landed the banking job in 1991 I knew I had a winner. After so many good and bad experiences you know when you are at the right place.
