I was involved in a drunk driving accident a while back. I was sitting at a traffic light, and a drunk crashed into me. After colliding with my car, he took off down a sidestreet. There was a cop ~100 yards up the road giving another person a ticket. I ran up to the cop, explained what happened, and she told me to hop in the back of her cruiser. I did, and we took off chasing down the guy that hit me. Ultimately, some other cops caught the guy, and he ended up paying a huge fine and doing a ton of community service.

yes, I was in cuffs too. it was terrible and being arrested and spending the night in jail. the worst experience in my life.

If that's the worst, you can count yourself pretty damn lucky.

Couple of times. First time was in the 70's, my brother ran out of gas and the state patrol gave us a ride. Those were the good old days!
I did a ride along with a sheriff friend several years ago, with a child abuse case. I could tell that was probably the worst part of the job for him.

Only once in my life have I been given a field sobriety test and a field breathalyser test. I passed both without any problems. The officers placed me, uncuffed, in the back of their cruiser while they ran my license for any outstanding warrants, and then I was released.

I sat in a troopers car for about an hour when my car broke down on the highway in the middle of nowhere and it was about 30F out. I was waiting for a tow truck, but they were about 1.5 hours away.

Ive driven a few black and white CVs when I worked for campus PD back in college, got to ride in a few tahoes and other random SUVs and such as well, never been in the back though.

An Irish officer gave me a ride to the train station when I was hopelessly lost in Dublin though, lol.

Only when dad's truck broke down due to the nitwit at the fueling station putting gas in our diesel truck. Trooper came by and asked if we needed help; took dad to the gas station.

I've driven law enforcement vehicles, and I've ridden in them (front seat). Never been "picked up" by one, though.

Yeah... when I was a kid for crank calling 911 from a payphone at a park.

How do you possibly get caught for that? Did you just stand around the payphone for 30 minutes until the cop showed up?

Yep. My friend was driving three of us to go camping traffic stopped on I-80 and he looked away at the wrong second. He plowed into a pick up truck, which was higher than his pumper and totally doomed his car. We were all fine, a bit stiff but fine. CHP showed up and pushed the wrecks off the road and gave us a ride. Was weird being in the back of a crown vic and not having door handles.

I used to work for Motorola & designed large area communication systems for state & local governments ... then later, anything Feds.

So, yes ... been in a few as well as prisons & the UN (part of the Fed thing) ...
