If I'm late to work I just work later, no questions asked. I'm usually early though.

I'm chronically 5-10 minutes late everyday...but I am also the one who opens the doors ever morning.

There is only my work truck among others from different companies. The rest of the yard is on the other side of town. I am chronically late 2-10 min. The last GF I worked for I was NEVER late, that was for a year and a half span.

Once, I woke up more than two hours late. Called in, let them know, no problem, and I just had two hours missing off my next paycheck. No big deal.

at most like an hour or because in pretty much every job i've had it was at least 45 minutes to get there.

Always called in too if i was going to be more than a few minutes late.

Yeah, working in the IT department of my university. I had spent the day prior at a food festival, drinking giant beers and vodka from a flask. This went on for 8 hours or so, at some point I went head over heels off a bar stool and cracked my noggin. My female companion drove me home (somehow) and was taking me to bed when I threw up all over my shoes and text books just inside the doorway to my room. She promptly turned around and left. Keep in mind I don't remember any of this, she had to fill me in on it later.

I just woke up, 3 hours late for work, with a mild concussion, vomit all over all of my shoes and no idea what was going on. I played it off cool when I got to work, until I started vomiting. Then I just went home. It was never spoken of again.

Oh, and for the last year and a half on battalion staff, I've been 15-30 minutes late most days, because let's be honest: it doesn't matter.

Sure. No one cares. Managers just assume something important came up.

We don't have fixed hours. Some people work 6:00-2:30. Others get in at 9:00. As long as you have forty hours in at the end of the week.

All the time, but so what, it evens out in the end. I worked Sunday night for 3-4 hours in the office and I regularly stay 15 mins to a half hour after my scheduled time to leave so I don't feel bad about getting there 15 mins to a half hour late in the morning.

Cool story bro

I've never made a habit out of it, so it's never been an issue. Most of my bosses have just said either stick around a bit later to make up the time or just don't worry about it. They know I'm online late at night checking emails so they get their time out of me anyway.

Yes.

It was out of my control. There was a severe accident on the interstate (I used to drive 55mi one way to work before I moved closer). Once I knew I was going to be late, I called my boss and told him where I was. He was cool with it, heck all he had to do was turn on the radio if he wanted to confirm it.

Second time (about a year later) I was late due to a flat tire, and even my spare was flat because it had sprung a bead leak. I was about 30 min late that day.

Things happen. Generally speaking, as long as you aren't habitually late, and when you are late it is because of things outside of your control, then more often than not people are understanding. Always make sure that if you're going to be late because of a flat, accident, etc that you call ahead and notify the appropriate person.

I did oversleep once and was late because of that, and my boss and coworkers just made fun of me all day

my worst time was when i got stationed in germany. was going through the 2 week inprocess/training and one night my room mate who had already been there for like 2 years talked me into going to frankfurts redlight district on a weeknight. bad bad bad decision on my part. no i did not get a whore i just wanted to see it. we didnt get back to the dorm unil like 4am. i had to get up at 6 to catch the bus out to my duty location which was about 20 miles from Hahn Air Base.

i remember my alarm going off at 6, i remember turning it off, i dont remember falling asleep again..... next thing i know im waking up a 9am and i all i can think is im dead im dead im dead, the chief is going to skin me.

i manage to hitch hike a ride to the duty station get there around 10:30.... not good.

the chief pulls me aside and ask me where the fuck have i been. i told him the truth, no sense in lying about it. he ripped me a new asshole and warned me if i ever was late again he was article 15 my ass an taking a stripe which means no longer being a Sgt....

last time i was ever late.

I wanted to wake up at 6:00am the other day, set my two alarm clocks that both have two individual very loud alarms, and that still didn't wake me up. I think that when I am in a deep state of sleep, I must just be in a half-awake mode when I turn off the alarm clocks because I do not recall turning off either. I ending up waking up at 10:00am. It didn't matter because it was the weekend, but it still makes me worried and makes me feel like I have no control over my sleep. Not sure if I should get new alarm clocks or what I need to do...

I use an alarm with a bed shaker, which usually helps!

One time i was 3 or 4 hours late to work - there was an accident on the other end of a bridge i had to cross and i got stuck on top of the bridge. it was pretty cool being able to step out and walk on the bridge though.

another time there was a robbery that shut down a major intersection on my commute, causing all of traffic to be rerouted to the backroads. after fighting my way through traffic for roughly 1:45, I got stopped by a security guard for a random inspection of my vehicle. I ended up being 2 hours late.

Luckily, my work is extremely flexible, and I'm guessing about half the time no one would even notice if I were gone.

My commute is around 25 mins over surface streets so I am usually never late. Sometimes my time varies by 15mins but it isn't a big deal.

Honestly, I don't know that I've ever been more than 5 minutes late for any job, if that.

Yep. I used to drive ~100 miles each way to work. Shit happens.

Fortunately, I USUALLY had a boss who understood that when commuting, one fuck-up on the freeway could delay me. I always left early enough that without such fuck-ups in traffic, I was between 30 minutes and 1 hour early...time for a short cat-nap or a breakfast burrito from the roach coach...(or both) BUT, once or twice per year...shit happens and I'd be a bit late. I always called the boss and let him know though.
I had a job, must have been around 1988, I'm guessing, it was in an ink factory. Me and this guy were temps, and I was hoping to get hired permanent, the job was union and after 3 months IIRC you were either permanent or out of there. Being union, it paid well. I was already fantasizing about the new car I was going to buy (I only had a bicycle).

That other guy, one day he wears this T shirt that says in big letters, "Shit Happens." That was the first time I ever saw (or heard) that phrase. Next day he was fired. Shit happens. The guy I was working under gave me a negative assessment at the end of my 3 months trial period, I guess it was up to him. I was never late, always did the job, was reliable, I wanted to be permanent, but I think he just asked himself if I was the guy he wanted to work with indefinitely and the answer was no. He was latino, an uneducated immigrant from Puerto Rico. I think he wanted someone more like him to work with day in and day out.

I'm about 10-20 minutes late every now and then when there is more then 1 car accident on the way to work. The trip normally takes 31 mins and can take up to 1:10 if enough idiots crash.

I've only missed one day of work and it was due to crashing my car in the middle of nowhere.
