Have you ever been seriously late for work? Like over an hour late? How did you handle it? What happened as the result of it? Otherwise, have you ever had co-workers show up very late and what happened to them?

No, I have never been late to work. Don't make it a habit. They will fire you.

I had one technician that was late a lot, really a lot. We finally overcame the HR and had him fired. The next day we had a gone party in celebration of his departure.

I hate people that are constantly late or call out. They suck and place a larger burden on their co-workers.

Yep, few days before this past Christmas, I was about 2.5 hours late. Stayed 2.5 hours later.

Since I'm allowed to be late six times every six months, nothing happened.

Yep. I used to drive ~100 miles each way to work. Shit happens.

Fortunately, I USUALLY had a boss who understood that when commuting, one fuck-up on the freeway could delay me. I always left early enough that without such fuck-ups in traffic, I was between 30 minutes and 1 hour early...time for a short cat-nap or a breakfast burrito from the roach coach...(or both) BUT, once or twice per year...shit happens and I'd be a bit late. I always called the boss and let him know though.

I wanted to wake up at 6:00am the other day, set my two alarm clocks that both have two individual very loud alarms, and that still didn't wake me up. I think that when I am in a deep state of sleep, I must just be in a half-awake mode when I turn off the alarm clocks because I do not recall turning off either. I ending up waking up at 10:00am. It didn't matter because it was the weekend, but it still makes me worried and makes me feel like I have no control over my sleep. Not sure if I should get new alarm clocks or what I need to do...

Put them across the room or in another room if you have to. Or in an air vent.

Yep. Forgot I had to be at work once and woke up late the second time. Two hours late both times. Yikes.

Luckily, I already mentally checked out of that job and found a new one.

I was working downtown Chicago. We had a blizzard and i got to work at 1pm (was supposed to be there at 8). boss asked WTf i was doing at work and to get home before it got worse.

a phone call would have been nice..

The latest I have ever been for work was the morning I woke up when I normally leave. I still took a shower and was only about 7 minutes late.

oh yea! Back in my drinking days, it wasn't uncommon for me to call my boss and ask him for a ride. Of course that was 2 hours after I was supposed to be there and I was calling because I couldn't find my car

I miss the stories...not the drinking

yes, i've been an hour or two late before. sometimes i turn my alarm off before i'm actually coherent.

not a big deal at all in my field because you can just stay 2 hours late to make up the time.

There's a few times I've been late, usually after a blizzard when there's like 2 feet of snow to take off the car. That or -40 days where there's like an inch of ice to scrape from the car. This is the main thing I hate about winter, getting the car ready every single morning. Next car I get, it will have remote start.

Once I was a keyholder for EB Games and I was supposed to open the store at 9, but I overslept and opened it at 11:30. No one ever said a word.

I've only ever overslept one other time than that, and it was just as uneventful.

I couldn't tell you the last time I was at work on-time.

my boss doesn't really care. it's usually in the 45-90 minute late range and I stay late... all things considered, he'd probably be more annoyed if I showed up early, since we're hurting for coverage more in the evenings than in the mornings.

on the couple of occasions where I've really overslept, I just sent my team an email apologizing and letting them know that I was en route to the office.

All the time. I'm salaried and what my boss cares about is that I meet all my deliverables.

Yeah, all the time. I have an hour commute to work, and that can easily become 2 hours if I run into a traffic jam because of an accident.

But, hey... I work support, so my job really isn't an 8 to 5 gig.
