Have you ever been to a LAN party?

Between 1997 through 2002 we'd set up a server and play BZFlag (https://www.bzflag.org/) at work during lunch. We'd have 4 teams of 5 battling it out for an hour each day. Then the company came out with the policy of no shareware/freeware/open source software on our networks, so that came to an end. We held 4 lan parties at different people's homes after the ban at work, but it just wasn't the same. Eventually every one of the 20 guys that played regularly left the company except for me. I miss those good ole days.

Several back in the 90s. Duke Nukem, Tribes, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat. Good memories.

Yes, many times in the late 90's early 2000's. Quake series, UT series, Tribes, Motoracer, JK, etc. Needed to in order to play with low ping, don't anymore. Was fun honestly, meeting people behind the name. Comparing rigs, stories. Funny how you dislike someone online, then meet and actually have a lot in common and get along fine. Either that, or some people are too scared to say in your face what they said online and act like they're cool.

After I typed that I realized the 21" monitors probably came later. It was likley 19" monitors around that time. Definitely had a full tower though. Solid steel construction. Weighed a million pounds.
This was like 1995-1998 I'd guess.

I didn't build my own rig until 96 when I was 16 and had a job. Until then, it was a cheap used hand me down old 486 with graphics that maxed out at 640x480x256 colors.

Spent most of the night trial and error-ing a chopped up printer cable to make a null modem connection. Finally got DOOM, warcraft 1, and Descent 1 to work... that was the begging of the end. 10 base T coax--->CAT5 over years, dragging heavy 21" CRTs to various basements, garages, living rooms, church cafeterias... all died out with the mainstreaming of broadband.
Still nothing like it to this day.

Wow, this was so long ago. My first real lan was over my friend's house. He had 4 computers hooked up on a network. If I remember correctly, some of the games we played were dungeon keeper, quake, and warcraft 2.

Half the fun was getting all the computers connected, which literally took half the night. lol

Didn't meet the minimum dorrito's intake requirement, was about 2 pounds short of chips a week I couldn't afford it.
