Have you ever been to Bangkok?

What was it like? Personally I think its too dangerous to visit that country, but I wonder what other people thought of it.

I was just in Bangkok from June-October. I have friends who are currently in Bangkok now. They are going to celebrate New Years there.

I had an amazing time there. The weather is hot, and there are plenty of nice people. I was in an area that saw few foreigners so I really stood out. I was treated like a rock star! Thai food is amazing.

Now, I did read that the police were recently shaking down foreigners for money. Corruption runs high so you do need to be careful. Always carry a copy of your passport with you. The country is still in martial law, but the military never bothered me. The only issue I had were the many stray dogs in the street. Bangkok alone has over 30,000 stray dogs. Most don't do anything, but it's a little scary to be walking around 4-5 strays that are blocking your path. Finally, the traffic can be very dangerous. Thailand has the 2nd highest motor vehicle death rate in the world. So be careful.

PS... Be careful of the lady boys. Most are nice, but they can easily fool you if you've been drinking.

Thailand is not that bad safety wise. I felt very safe there. Bangkok is as crazy as you want it to be. I did not care for it as much as Phuket/Phi Phi/Chiang Mai but it is cool to experience for 2 days. A city is a city to me for the most part.

I been there a few times as I have family there. I dont think it is any more dangerous than any other big city. Granted people can't driv4e for shit. I didn't spend to much time in bangkok, just a bit to busy for me. I tended to go to more non tourist areas. But it is fun, had a lot of things to do, great nightlife, shopping, etc. Great food to eat too. Man I need to go back.
