Have you ever had surgery... how far do you remember counting backwards?

From 10 before you were out? edit: or up from 1(didn't realize some people count up)

I was a teenager when I had a surgery to repair a fractured tibia. I knew the anesthetic would put me out but I didn't really think about when or how it was going to happen so when they told me to count backwards, I thought it was just a test and didn't think much of it. Next thing I knew, I was awake in a recovery room and my leg felt like it was on fire. In hindsight, if I had known, I would've concentrated to stay awake just to see how far I could get as I counted. I think I made it as far as 8. :\

I remember counting to 3 and then it just became too much effort, I wanted to enjoy the buzz. I was counting up from 1, not down from 10.

When my wisdom teeth were pulled I went under. Started at 10 and counted backwards to maybe 8.

I think I made it to 7 and then it was lights out. Waking up was pretty cool. I snapped out of it pretty quick and didn't have that haze that many people do.

I think I got to 8 when I got the metal rod put in my ankle.

next thing I know I was waking up in recovery but was SSSOOO tired and kind of in/out of it, and my Aunt was there (she works at the hospital), then like 10 seconds later I was back out.

i remember that it was the BEST feeling of sleep i've ever had in my life when I woke up for that short time then fell back asleep.

I was put under for my wisdom teeth. I remember them coming in a couple of times and say "Are you out yet?" Apparently I stayed awake longer then normal. I do remember looking at the surgeon's face one minute, and the next minute asking my mom "Where am I? How did I get here?" Apparently I asked her that several times, I only remember the last time.

In other words, I didn't count. It was a while though.

I have to admit, man that was really good sleep, waking up with a freshly closed 6" incision wasn't fun though.

lol i don't even remember. i tried talking and fighting it, and next thing I knew i was being wheelchaired out.

Wisdom teeth.

The time I got other teeth pulled (teeth are too crowded), I was put under with gas I believe. It was too early in the morning I just passed out.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth done I remember saying "Tehhh" and that was it.

For my appendix I was so doped up on Morphine that I don't even remember going to surgery.

I was going in for surgery to take out my appendix as a child and wasn't given a countdown at all - they surprised me and added it without advance notice that I was going under.

I woke up X minutes/hours later with a jolt with an oxygen mask over my mouth trying to breathe and unable to do so very well. I would have preferred the warning.

When I had shoulder surgery I saw them put the IV in and nothing really happened. I got nervous because they were getting out tools and looked like they were getting ready to start. I sat up and said "uhh, guys? I'm still awake". They all looked up at the same time, and then started laughing, which made me feel silly. Next thing I knew I was waking up.

I told them that the nose-fitting air mask wasn't quite right, somebody adjusted it, and that was all. Never was even told to count, and it didn't matter.

I got all the way through, they readjusted my mask, I started asking if I should count again and was done.

I also woke up during surgery but that was due to somebody screwing up the mix or something. I remember raising my head, some nurse put it back down, and I was out again. I have been in quite a few surgeries in my relatively short life.

I've also had it explained to me that depending on the procedure (like brain surgery)you might not actually be knocked out...but just sedated..and the anethesia is there to wipe out your memory of the event.
