I don't remember counting at all.

my last memory before waking up in the recovery room is getting wheeled into the OR and seeing my surgeon standing around with a bunch of other guys in a room that looked like where they'd perform and alien autopsy.

I got from 100 down into the eighties at which point I asked the dentist if I was supposed to still be awake. He reached up and adjusted the drip. Lights out.

When I was younger and got my tonsils out I counted backwards from 10 a couple times before going out.

A few years ago when I got my wisdom teeth out I was so tired I think I fell asleep in the chair before they even gave me a shot, haha. Apparently I woke up and gave them my credit card - and didn't remember. I saw them walk back in to the room holding my card and I shot up and was like, "HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET THAT?!" I guess I kept asking if they had it multiple times afterwards...don't remember that.

Then after they got me out of the chair I was walking to the main lobby and they tell me, "You might feel a little wobbly" to which I replied "Sounds like a normal weekend to me....woooooo!" (All while having my mouth filled with cotton.)

The tiny girl walking me out thought I was going to tank it and tried to hold me up and I just started laughing. I clearly remember thinking if I were to actually go down she better just get out of the way because I'd kill her. I'm 6'2" and 220ish and she was maybe 5'2" and 100lbs. My mom said it seemed like I was having a good time...but I don't remember more than those few bits and pieces. It was basically like being extremely drunk.

was knocked for wisdom teeth and when they removed the tumor from my soft palette. I don't remember much from either time, but it sure as hell didn't take long.

The tumor was a few years ago and i remember being rolled in, adjusted on the table, and looking up and thats about it. doesn't take long to put me down. after that I just remember waking up in the recovery section and my mouth was extremely dry. first thing i did was ask for water. my shoulders, arms and stomach hurt for like a week afterwards because of the way they had to adjust me on the table to easily work in my mouth and being that way for a few hours.

I had minor, superficial surgery on my back, requiring general anesthesia. Doc told me to count down, starting from 10. I remember they were rolling me to surgery, I only made it to 8 and I was out.

That was the first time I had surgery and I was totally unprepared/surprised at my sore throat that comes with having a tube shoved down your throat for the duration of the surgery.

I've had surgery a couple of times and I always go out pretty fast - it would be around 8 or 9 counting down from 10. Waking up though....I hate it. Maybe the anesthesia really likes me or something but it is always a struggle to wake up and I usually end up pushing the boundaries of how long I can stay at the facility. When I had my appendectomy I slept for 4 hours after, Struggled awake at the gentle prodding of my parents and got into the wheelchair - fell asleep in the wheel chair - woke up long enough to get out of that and into the car - fell asleep on the way home - woke up long enough to get into bed and slept till morning

Anyone know the origins of this or why they do it? Seems like you're going to nod off whether or not you count. :hmm:

hehe, I had to stay overnight for observation and i could barely walk to like go to the bathroom and stuff. had to have the nurse help support me. and my surgery was just in my mouth! it was really weird.

and then the machine monitoring my breathing kept beeping and waking me up. I guess it was a sleep apnea monitor or something so it beeped when i stopped breathing for a second or something like that.

I have only had local anesthesia, but boy do I wish I had been fully knocked out for that.

I remember when I got my wisdom teeth removed. They put a mask on me and told me to relax and I was out after a few seconds. I then woke up and asked the doctor if it was over. He laughed and said they haven't even given me the anesthetic yet!

I've had 3 surgeries. Counting down from 10 I think I got to nuh... for two of them. For my ACL surgery I had a spinal and I sat up and watched the whole thing.
