Have you ever lived outside your "home" country? For a year or more?

Have you lived outside your home country for a year or longer? If so where did you live and what was it like? Would you consider ever going back to live there or perhaps going to live elsewhere in the world?

By Home country I mean the country that you have come to associate as your home. It could be your country of birth but it does not have to be.

For me personally I lived in Malaysia from the age of 2 to 3. Then I lived in China and Taiwan from about 3 to 5. Then Malaysia again from 5 to 6 before moving here to Canada. I've been back to China and Malaysia a few times though never for more than a few weeks at a time. Despite my memories of the time being obviously fuzzy due to how young I was I still have very fond memories of the time, especially of Malaysia!

yes. Just under 3 years in Okinawa, Japan. Under no circumstances would I consider going back there to live or anywhere else for that matter.

About the only thing I miss about living over there is some of the food.

Why not? Bad experience? Japan IS a very closed society and one that's not the most welcoming to foreigners. However many people have overcome this as well.

Yeah, it's nice and I enjoy it but don't think I would come back when I'm older. It's fine if you're young but I wouldn't want to raise a family in such a dense living quarters.

Nope. Born in Germany, moved to America. I didn't live in Germany for even a year though.

I don't see the point of living in other countries considering the USA is pretty awesome. Unless I was hella rich no way I'd spend that long out of the country. Don't know any foreign languages. Only so many places will hire someone who speaks only English... :\

Yup.

Born and lived in Japan for about half my life, other half in the US, and worked 2 years in Europe after graduating college. Would be back in Europe in a heartbeat if I could get a permanent visa, but career-wise the US makes more sense right now.

I lived 10 years in the Philippines. Seeing as I was only about to dive about .00065% of what the Philippines had to offer, I would like to go back. Plus I love me some cheese lumpia.

Yep. Born in the US. Lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years and lived in Germany for 3 years.

Since 1995, I have traveled to Europe at least once per year, and I studied in Germany for a semester in 1999.

Lived just over 3 years in Italy. Loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. Food and women were awesome there. Laid back place. Only problem was it's expensive as hell.
