Have you ever met anyone at all who uses 32-Bit Windows 7 or 8 on their home PC?

I personally have not. I don't know if things are different in the States, but here in Canada at least it seems that all of the major electronics retailers transitioned directly from selling PCs with 32-Bit Windows XP to selling PCs with 64-Bit Windows 7. I honestly don't remember Vista ever having any kind of significant presence at all.

Maybe they existed for those seeking to upgrade their 32-bit system? It is a poor choice, but then again M$ usually offers a lot of OS choices.

My wifes laptop is 32bit. Its an older Core Duo that does a decent job at running win7. It does what she needs a computer to do and the price is right.
Edit:When she eventually gets a new lappy it will be 64bit.

The VM I am posting on now is 32-bit Vista, one of my laptops is 32-bit Vista, my parents' desktop is 32-bit 7, and I believe my Dad's laptop is 32-bit 7.

I have not yet seen a machine running 32-bit 8.

I have a 2007 laptop that dual boots 32 bit versions of Vista and Win 8. I mostly use Vista and put 8 on there b/c I got it really cheap.

I believe my family's Windows 7 desktop and laptop are 32-bit. I know the title said "home PC" but all atom tablets are 32-bit as well.

I am currently running Win 7 and Win 8.1 32 bit on laptop and desktop. No reason to go 64 bit - don't game, don't multitask, and don't need more than 3GB of RAM. I have the ISO files for 64 bit for 7 and 8, and when I buy new equipoment, I will change. Until then, not necessary.

I see them all the time. I had Vista 32 bit and then Win7 32 bit on my old laptop. I put 32 bit on my girlfriends PC. My gaming rig and current laptop have 64 bit though.

Yap, and this is the situation with the majority of End users.

Most of them do not even know which version of the OS they are using.

Many have Home Premium 64 Not out of choice. They have it because that what the vendors are putting on the HDs in the last few years.

End Users do not care about this issues because the only thing that they care about is that "Thingy" would do what they need to do.

It is the Enthusiasts thing to go "crazy" when their computer does not have the Best CPU, HD, Video c card, OS (according to their close circle definition).

There is Nothing per-se wrong with this Enthusiasts' psychological need. The issue is the tendency to project this feeling to be some sort of the ultimate truth and that something is wrong with those that do not behave according to the Enthusiasts way of thinking.

This.

All of mine are 64 bit but all of mine have more than 4gb ram whether they "need" it or not.

I've seen a lot of 32 bit Win 7 in the wild, not so much Win8. It's mostly from those people who bought systems in the timeframe when people were still buying 7 systems and back-installing 32 bit XP

Interesting, it seems like most of you guys using 32-Bit are using it because you actually chose to install it yourself... as far as prebuilt laptops or desktops though, I'm not even sure where a person would buy a machine with 32-Bit Win 7 or 8, at least where I live. I've never even seen an advertisement that bothered to specify what version of the OS it is, because it's just always 64-Bit.

If people really care about it you would see it as a choice.

The 64bit is probably the Default because of whatever finance deals the vendors figured out with Microsoft.

The "poor" vendors would be happy to add: "This a 64bit version, for 32 bit version please add $19.99 (number just for illustration).

Lack of such option just shows that the customers at large do not care about this issue.

Look at the major Drama Queening that going on in the Video Card Forum. Do you really think that 99.9% of Computer consumers/users realty care (or know) about the "minute" differences between a Good nVidia or AMD cards?

In sum, a movie like Avatar is very entreating, but I hope that no one thing that it represent the real world. - :sneaky: -

Yes. Said person used a good bit of older software, so 32-bit was chosen.

Also, what about non-64-bit CPUs? 32-bit it is. 8 won't have that problem, generally, but 7 still did.

In another case, a business one, which is current, sadly, a certain peripheral will not work in 64-bit, with its related software (both work on their own, but the software can't see the device).

In general, there's no reason not to go with 64-bit, once you are into having GBs of RAM, but sometimes, "in general," doesn't work out for, "specific cases."

I built a new computer 18 months ago. My old machine was built in 2005, so when I updated from XP to Win 7 I had to use 32-bit. I was glad MS included both versions in the package once I had 64-bit hardware.

My OEM Win 8 only had the 64-bit version.

I have a desktop at home with core duo and 32bit win7. It is a pre built around 3 years old and after freshly installing win7 this weekend it will boot to login screen in 33 seconds.

I also have a brand new desktop at work with a second gen i3, 4GB ram, and 32bit win7! I didn't build it but it is really quite capable loading various apps. It probably helps that I am not used to an i7 with a ssd so I don't know what I am missing.

I played wow with a guy that claimed his computer had amazing stats like 16g ram (at the time that was really high) and at the end he said he had a windows 7 32 bit operating system. I had a suspicion that he lied about his computer stats and when I told him 32 bit operating systems were caped at around 3g ram he said he did a work around to get it all working at full capacity or something like that.

This pretty much applies to every interest or field of endevour in life. Even those who don't understand why anyone would worry about how many 'bits' their OS has would themselves do exactly the same with some other interest (e.g. cars, cooking, or, er, their child's school grades!). And some of us drift in-and-out of that kind of obsessiveness and at times find ourselves baffled why we previously thought something was so important!

I believe 32-bit is not that obsolete yet. We have two computers in the house with 32-bit Win 7 and they're still running smoothly.

Its legacy software compatibility. I WISH I had 32-bit OS on my work pc so that I could use legacy software. Org is too cheap and too slow to upgrade this old old system, so now its even more crippled.

SMRT.
