I think it's cool when people name their kid after them. If I have a son I would name him after me.
Make sure your offspring don't resent it. For example: I don't particularly care, but why do I and others carry my father's name if we don't even know him? It's like if TBS, TNT, TCM, Turner South, etc all got named after Ted Turner because he was just some guy who only attended the first board meeting of the company.

It was weird when I moved to San Diego and found that a half brother of mine with the same name had just moved to Maryland from neighboring Escondido (SD county). My father named me and another half-brother I never met after himself and then hid from imaginary government agents in other countries. He divorced before I was born and left right after (only stuck around to name me?). The half-brother I know of was grown and gone long before I was even conceived. Before then, he and my father wanted to kill each other and had no contact which is why I never met anyone else with the same name despite being "The Fourth." *shrug* I'm surprised he didn't make my twin brother "The Fifth." He did get the same initials as me.

I wonder if he did that to throw "the government" off his trail. They DID get my birth certificate wrong and called me "The Second," though it's fixed on my SS card. :hmm:

I can tell you having to work in a healthcare environment that father/son having the same name and living in the same area is a medical nightmare when it comes to record management. Especially as the father/son get older (say 50 & 70) and it's harder to determine which is which. Have to deal with that weekly on getting records and charts merged together and on the right person.

Nope, but there is a AAA video game that came out a few years ago where the main character has the exact same name. A lot of people I meet ask if I've played it lol

I have not in person, however, at work there is another person with the same first and last who works in another division in another state. I get emails meant for him sometimes, and he sometimes gets emails meant for me.

I have one time. He was also wearing a jersey with his full name on it, which made it easier to spot. Ha.

Most of the time, no. Many organizations are moving away from SSN entirely and it's not even visible in most areas of a chart. When you walk up to the registration desk of a prompt care or doctors office it's First Name, Last Name, DOB. If the registration person grabs the wrong name from the list and sends you on back the nurse *should* validate name & DOB again, but sometimes they won't.

My 2 male cousins and I have the same first and last name (named after our paternal grandfather). There is also someone who plays on a professional sports team with my same name.

No but I saw someone with my exact car for the first time today, which is impressive since I've been driving my car for 14 years and over 220k miles.

Is it the car in your avatar? If so then, AWESOME,

If not, meh....

There are a ton of people with the same first and last name as me. Including one famous country music star.

Lots of people with my same first and last name.

I have a friend and his wife that decided before their wedding that they disliked both of their last names, so they just...made up a new one. They both took this new last name upon getting hitched. No one else has this name, I can assure you.

I have a twin brother with the same initials and similar SSN and we once shared the same address (our mother's). Every month I would have to correct my Best Buy credit card's details because they kept reverting to his name on the statements. When I'd call and put in my SSN, I'd get HIS old details from a card he had long since closed ("You owe $0"). Every month they'd tell me that it was fixed and I didn't have to worry about it but it would happen again like clock-work. The same goes for our Best Buy Reward Zone accounts. He kept getting my RZ certificates!

I'm sure it had something to do with the way they parsed the database with obfuscated details. Our identical-when-incomplete SSN (first digits are exactly the same), identical FI+MI+Last name, identical DOB, and identical address, were enough to trigger continual automatic database merges. You may think it's forgivable, but think about how many twins there are in the world. Does this happen to every pair who have the same initials? Lots of people name their kids like that even when they aren't twins, so that should be expected and accounted for as well. I personally know a brother and sister with the same initials who are both adults who live with their mom.

Never met him but he lives about an hour from me and I have had my prescriptions (unknowingly) filled under his insurance.

Yoder (my last name) is very common in the Amish and mennonite community. My first name is also a very common name.

One of my cousins died a while ago, and had a funeral at a place that caters to a lot of amish & mennonites. My cousin's service was listed on their sign, and right next to that, there was a service for someone with my name.

Only once in my life have I ever met, in-person, someone with the same first name as me, although I know many more do exist. My name is relatively uncommon, but not unique by any stretch. I highly doubt there exists any person with my same forename and surname.

Fun fact, however: A fantasy novelist wrote a series of books wherein the main character shares my first name, and in the stories he belongs to a species of humanoid creatures that are called by my surname. I have even exchanged emails with the author.

according to something i read, i'm the only me in the country. (due to the relatively odd way my last name is spelled. there's a few more of me using the original german spelling for the last name)

No, the person I was named after, my paternal grandfather, died before I was born (However, I was named after his used first name (really a nickname), not his given first name, so I am not sure that would even count).

I have indeed. Something even more messed up? He does the same thing for a living that I do. Talk about pretty wacky. He teaches his profession at an university and I get emails from his students occasionally and from his work projects (customers/clients). It's sort of funny.
