I normally allow the "know-it-alls" time enough so they may bury themselves. Gasping and struggling. Begging for assistance.

Have an employee under my direction at work who thinks she knows everything. Once she was totally certain that we must use the exact same CD (the one which shipped with the specific computer) to reinstall the operating system on a Dell. OS serial number and license is printed on a tag stuck to the case. The restore CDs are all exactly the same. Serial number differentiates.

E-mailed a good friend in tech support at Dell. Then forwarded the e-mail shooting her theory full of holes.

What's hosed up is when you prove the idiots wrong with documentation, they still won't admit error.

A daily battle indeed.

<< Yea I have this moron at the office. First he refuses to have a dynamic IP assigned to his PC because he thinks he can get a virus if the IP was used on an infected PC.

He told me that he split his hard drive into three partitions and he copies the Windows CD (yup, copy/paste)onto the other two. That way if the hard drive crashes the other two will automatically take over. His words, not mine.

You just have to count on natural selection to catch up. You also should pray that he meets his demize before he multiplies. It sounds like he may be the seed to a whole new breed of idiots.

Is that story real?

What really bugs be is that when you do finally manage to prove these people wrong, they retort and say something to the effect of, "Well, that's because I'm not a computer geek and I don't sit around 24/7 playing computer games and messing with hardware!"

These are the people I'd like to punch in the face. If they don't know what they're talking about, they shouldn't pretend to.

Gah, I keep losing my train of thought. I'm not going to finish this post.

I can't stand when people do stuff like that. Oh well...

Just tell them to fire up CS and whip 'em.

I know what you guys mean. You might as well argue with a brick wall. You'd have a better chance against it. :|:|:|

<< one of my friends is friends with this guy that one of these local shady computer dealerships where all the ppl that have worked there have gotten arrested and jailed and they sell 1 GB HD's for $60. >>

If you're from Newark, Delaware, i know exactly the store you're talking about, and i won't be shy about calling them out either, it's Second Source Computers (there's another one in Wilmington also). World's sh!ttiest computer store. I went in there not long ago asking for an ESD baggie to mail out an item i sold on the FS/FT forums (a SB Live Value card, i had run out of baggies), and the dude wanted to charge me $10 for it. Utterly stupid, greedy, ignorant POS store employees. If you're ever in Delaware, avoid those @ssholes like the plague.

hehehe, this topic brings back memories. i know this one guy who thought he was the sh!t. he was going around school threatning people that he'd hack into their computers via the internet and delete all their stuff. To prove that he was a master hacker and all, he 'hacked' and logged on into someone else's email account. turns out the dumbass whose account he had 'hacked' into wrote down his password and our 'l33t master hacka' saw this.

later, he says, i'll put viruses that i write on all your computers via the internet. he had bought a cd full of viruses off egay. what a lamer. he also claims his first computer was a 'pentium 286', despite us telling him otherwise.
