And why do people on here seem to bash religious types a lot? It's not like they are hurting you. I would say the majority are nice, hlepful folks. Who cares what they believe in. I can understand those who try to force something on you, but in my experience, most don't do that.

I guess I just don't get all the hatred I see here for those who happen to believe in a religion.

ive read much of the bible, portions of other religious texts, and im taking a world religions course this fall.

im not religious.

That's stupid, but it's not really bashing; at least no more than saying that germ theory is an interesting fiction.

In fact most Christians themselves consider the Bible largely metaphorical.

This is a good combination -- there's far too much confusion of cultural religiosity with something more profound, which might be called spirituality. Reading just an ancient text or two and studying the accompanying commentary, practices, etc., can still leave you with no real understanding and just an entrenched dogmatic egotism as can be seen in many literal fundamentalists.

Whatever you choose to believe. There are some archeological evidence for some of the Bible stories and there are evidence for the theory of evolution, I won't get into the debate coz no matter what, you aren't going to change someone's belief. What I am saying is that far too often when one disagree with another person's belief, the other person feels being 'bashed' and then hostility arouse, and we start seeing flames being thrown around.

Yes, I have. I've also read the Koran, the Dhammapada, and the Tao Te Ching. Only one that ever connected with me was the Bible, but that's another conversation.

They didn't until science started shooting holes in it. Up until 50 years ago every single word of the bible was taught as being 100% true. Now they backpedal away from those parts and yet keep believing the other parts. That's the amazing thing that so many of us can't understand. Even when half the book has been proven to be pure crap and even though more and more of it keeps getting disproven then still keep believing in the rest of it. Utterly amazing.
