I tried to read it... and then tried a second time... I don't see what makes it so popular.

I've read the bible and studied it in school (theology in high school, bible-as-lit in college).

also took a world religions course in high school and independently read the koran and some random new age wicca-y stuff.

I found Lord of the Rings to have a much better plot and far less gratuitous violence.

It's trendy to be liberal now a day.

since when does liberal mean anti-christian?

Actually, I've yet to see many of the bible-thumping fundies, who are overwhelmingly conservative, act like real Christians.

Falwell, Robertson? These guys are as far from Christian as you can get. Fortunately, Falwell is sucking dirt and getting burned in whatever hell he lives in; too bad his hateful venom lives on up here though....

you are right that liberalism doesn't mean anti-Christian, just that seems that there are ppl who think anything Christian is conservative and anything anti-Christian is liberal

again: so then why do you perpetuate the stereotype? Your original statement specifically implies that liberal = bible-hater.

EDIT: using my own example, I think the reason this label comes about is because hateful dipshits like Falwell and Robertson declare themselves Christian, and liberals to be the enemy. Not only do they place liberals as anti-Christian, but their are a lot of people who legitimately despise these people. Most of them liberal, sure, but they despise them for their vitriolic beliefs--not because of Christianity, but because they are evil, hateful pieces of shit.

Liberals attack these people because they are social misfits attempting to destroy the fabric of our free country. Liberals don't attack them because they espouse a particular religion.
Actually it comes about because liberals routinely align themselves in opposition to Biblical principles. Whereas, conservatives draw some principles straight out of the Bible. Most liberals are aware that the conservative principles they attack are rooted in the Bible. I agree that not all conservatives are Christian. Just because you support biblical values doesn't mean you believe in Jesus.

Christians don't rely on mouthpieces like Falwell or Robertson to perceive who their enemies are. You just hear liberals talk and realize they oppose biblical principles.

As far as the vitriol or hate espoused by the guys you mentioned, it's probably nothing more than bald statement of facts which do not arouse any ill will in their intended audience. I find it odd people get outraged that someone mentions they might be going to hell or facing God's judgement. LIke it's some kind of insult. sheesh What? My deeds may lead to judgment? How dare you!!
Those guys may need more tact at times. Non-believers have no idea where they're coming from and wildly misinterpret.

It sucked from the beginning. Then it started talking about Noah who lived over 900 years old. I stopped there. That's just too silly. I can't understand how anyone can take that literally.

It comes about because liberals align themselves with what Jesus said in regards to "love thy neighbor," "what you do unto the least of these, my brethren, you do unto me," and his teachings around compassion and tolerance. Conservatives skip over anything Jesus may have actually been trying to teach and hop straight into Leviticus "fire and brimstone" "kill the gays" "sexual frustration rage mode" bullshit. If Jesus was alive today, I think he'd be appalled that the religion built on his name has been perverted to be an outlet for ranting about gays and abortions.

I begat many a bowel movement that begat their own shits during the time it took to read Leviticus/Numbers.
