Have you ever replaced carpet with real wood and did you do it yourself?

Well what kind. There is the kind that glues down, snaps down, etc...

You need to find out what you want first then see the tools and parts that are needed to install it. Then get a good book on that type you want.

You don't want to be contacted, no pm, etc. I've encountered the exact problem you referred to. I solved it. I spent twenty minutes composing a resolution for you. I tried to post it here, but the forum was not working. It was giving erroneous error messages. You offer no alternative, no pm, etc. Good luck. I have 30 minutes invested now. I'm gone.

Rip out carpet, remove the tack strips, start from one wall, install wood. Drink beer.

I believe the problem was caused by the time change from daylight savings. The error kept coming up, "Only one post every 15 seconds." I dealt with it for 15 minutes, but I'm done now. The OP has no other contact info. So now I've wasted more time.

So... why not just post the PM you would have sent him now?

I helped my dad and brother do it, we like wood a lot more. One recommendation is that when you buy wood, you can buy ones that interlock inbetween each panel, this works very well and makes life easier when installing it.

That you're tearing out old carpet is largely irrelevant to the project, unless it's the glue down stuff. In that case, have fun getting the backer off.

Putting down wood flooring is a relatively simple diy project. But, one that takes a lot of time to get it right; at least the prep part and first 2 or 3 rows of flooring. Use the correct tools; especially if you're nailing tongue and groove... you don't want to simply hammer away with a regular hammer and nails, unless you don't mind that you're going to ruin a piece of wood here and there.

Power tools are your friend. Last time I laid hardwood I used a pneumatic T&G nail gun, with a finish nailer for the end runs (the last two/three rows in each room). Oh, and a band saw for ripping boards and making strange non-straight cuts. Other than that it's a very simple process, just lay out the boards and nail.
