During the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals John Madden went to the boards with Rob Niedermayer. Niedermayer fell over and his skate caught John Madden in the face opening up a gruesome cut on his cheek.

So a couple years later, I'm bowling with my friend (also a big Devils fan) in Madison, NJ. The place is packed, and some woman is causing a scene because she can't get a lane. The guy that was with her was standing off next to the wall, and he had a giant zipper stitched scar on his cheek. Yup, it was John Madden. I kept glancing over, trying to make sure it was really him, but trying not to stare. Obviously I got caught and he walked over and said hi to us. I felt bad for him that whoever he was with was making a scene. Later when I walked past the register I heard some lady saying "I don't care if he's some kind of hockey star, if we don't have a lane there's nothing I can do!"

So I wrote about the whole thing on a hockey forum i used to post at, and son-of-a-bitch, Mark Everson steals it and puts a blurb in his Devils column about an altercation John Madden was involved in over the weekend. Reading the column, and my post, I'm pretty sure he just lifted the story from the forum, what an asshole.

Walked in to the MGM Grand in Vegas and met Rodney Dangerfield in the lobby... He was walking across with a drink in hand and drunk as a skunk but took the time to say hi & chat then insult a few people that were walking by... Was nice to me I figure because my GF at that time was a real hottie...:\

Oh almost forgot I met Bill Clinton at a middle of no where store in AR... (think he was buying a box of cigars...?)

I see a lot in airports and planes (particularly in lounges and on LA-NYC transcons). There is a yearly film industry convention I attend and you get to meet a lot of people briefly in the green rooms and stuff.

I don't generally have a great interest in talking to most of them though.

Not having grown up in LA, my first sighting of a celebrity was kind of exciting, I'll admit. Then I saw another, and another and another... You quickly realize they're just people like anyone else. My friends back home were still impressed by my reported encounters, though.

I travelled back to LA with my girlfriend once a couple years ago. She'd never been. We had just gotten off the plane on a gorgeous spring day, and made our way to a nice cafe on Main in Santa Monica for lunch, when in walks Arnold Schwarzenegger and his whole entourage to sit not two tables from us.

It was still pretty cool to share an experience like that with her on our first day.

Seen? Same place as above, suddenly Hugh Hefner walks through, with his entourage. That man exists on a whole different plain of existence from the rest of us human beings. You can see it, but you'll probably never be lucky enough to exist in it.

Also, once, when I was a kid, the family was on vacation out west somewhere (Utah?), and suddenly came across a shitload of vehicles pulled off on the side of the road. Dad decided to stop and see what was happening, and we found out they were filming a scene from the 70's TV show, "Alias Smith and Jones". Got to watch them do take after take, as various modern day life kept intruding into their 19th century cowboy scene (jet noises overhead, someone's styrofoam cut bouncing across the scene, driven by the breeze, etc). Was a combination of interesting to watch, and yet excruciatingly boring, too!
