Good stuff.
I thought Hunan Palace is at Gaithersburg... (not too familiar with Silver Spring). If you like Taiwanese food, go try "66" at Rockville. It's close by Maxim.
I think it's fermented.Originally posted by: dman
So what makes it Stinky?
IIRC, Tofu is just a soybased food product, right? I've made some soystuff that I liked, and even fried it, but, it wasn't stinky. I fear the stinky stuff.

I've only had regular tofu, like in the plastic dishes. I like it, but no one else here does.

Yeah, I'm asian... and my parents fed me crap when I was younger... I don't quite recall the taste though. I didn't even know I was sucking snails out of their shells for quite a period of time... YUCK.
I heard it's spicy and delicious. People eat abalones all the time, it's in the same family.

My parents and my fiancee's parents are insisting on abalone as a dish at our wedding reception. Needless to say I won't be touching it (or much of the other stuff). I sometimes wonder if I'm really supposed to be Chinese. I even get migraines from MSG.
Are you kidding? I bet it's sliced abalone with sauteed shitake mushroom and mustard greens? I had it at a friend's wedding too. That dish is expensive and delicious. I only got 2 thinly sliced abalone before everyone else wolf 'em down.

Abalone's are just shellfish, right? I guess it's the same as eating raw oysters on the halfshell...

Maybe taste is more important.Originally posted by: WinkOsmosis
Why do Asians like stinky food? Is there a culture wide preoccupation with the disgusting?
