Have you ever used a fake ID?

I'm thinking of getting a fake ID. I just turned 18, and I don't know how well it will work out.

Is it that big of a deal if I get busted?

If you're going to get one, get a good one. You might as well spend the dough and get one that scans, just to be safe.

IMO though, it's not worth it.

Depends on state laws and what you were caught doing with it.

I've never used one. Years ago they were easier to make, and the worst thing that would happen is you'd get it confiscated. They're harder to make now, and everybody's gotten retarded over tobacco and alcohol, so who knows?

I was asking around Omaha, and I guess they're around $100 for a good one. That's not too awful.

I used one from 17-21 and never got caught. If you get a good one, it should be OK.

Most bars just confiscate the ID and let you on your merry way.

Many times, but at the time when I had a fake they were pretty easy to do. They were VERY effective in bars and liquor stores, it took a really sharp doorman or cashier to spot them and most didn't care enough to check the details that closely. I never had one confiscated, the worst that ever happened was the doorman would refuse it and hand it back. The important thing is to use the fake only for non-official situations like buying booze. A friend of mine got pulled over for running a red light, got the two licenses mixed up in the dark and handed the fake to the cop. BAD BAD BAD.

I used to have one in high school in Tahoe. Worked well but did get caught in one of the casinos after I had it a couple of years.
I walked into the casino and noticed a security guard eyeballing me. So I figured I'd make the first move. I walked up to him and asked him the time. He told me and asked for my ID. They confiscated it and told me to not come back.

Before I got it, they was a liquor store that would sell to me if no one was in the store. If someone was in the store, he'd ask for my ID and I'd give him my regular ID that said I was 16. He'd look at it, look at me and then sell me the beer. It was all for show for the other customers.

I managed to turn 21 without needing a fake to have a great time. If you're set on getting one make sure it's a good one though, a lot of bars and liquor stores will now scan IDs and if the address/name that pops up on the scan doesn't match the ID you're outta luck.

A fake ID won't prevent you from getting busted by the cops at a house party anyway so what's the point? Just do yourself a favor and enjoy the money you'll be saving by not going to the bar, you'll have plenty of time to hemmorhage cash there when you turn 21 .

why buy a fake id, when you can just give your friend who looks like you and is 21 $50 to go get himself a new ID saying he lost his old one...

I was going to suggest that, but I don't know how common that is anymore. There were places around here that would do the same thing. Look at your clearly marked under age ID, and sell to you anyway :^D

I can't stress this enough. The only instances I've heard of people getting in trouble for having a fake ID is when they accidentally showed it to cops or campus police. I believe they all got hefty fines. Just leave your fake at home unless you know you'll need it, and keep it in a different spot from your real ID when you are carrying (one instance of a person getting caught was when the officer saw two licenses in his wallet).

If you've just turned 18, I'd say spend the money to get a good one, as you should be able to use it for three years. I considered buying one when I was 20, but by that time it just wasn't worth the money.

in alberta the drinking age is 18 so I had one at 17 (I was in university at that point)...I made my own with photoshop and photo printers, I was denied many times and had it taken away atleast 10 times (they take it and say go home every time), but most of the time it worked at pubs and liquor stores, clubs not so much

I'm not condoning id fraud but it would be better if you had a real ID that looks like you and says 21, a lot better odds

When I worked at the casino we caught nobs like this all the time. They were stupid and would come in beside each other and get ID'd or come in 2 minutes apart. Only have to be 19 up here in Ontario to buy liquor etc so it was not too bad.

Yes.

Nowadays, you could potentially be charged with a felony for possession of false ID, maybe identity theft if it belongs to someone else.

I always used my real ID. If you would try enough places, then you would eventually get what you needed.

Lady: May I have your ID?
Me: Sure! (hands real ID that says I'm 19)
Lady: Let's see, where is your birthday at...OK! That'll be $19.55

I've never used a fake, but from what younger friends have told me, it's much harder to pass one off in a liquor store simply because the lighting is better and there is less pressure to get you through the door and on your way. Plus, they can scan IDs and do a whole bunch of other things.

Like I said, I never needed to use one, but my friends who did use them only ever had them taken away. The best story was my buddy used one to try and get in a bar. The ID didn't have his name on it and the bouncer must have been suspicious. He asks the guy behind my friend, "hey, what's this guy's name?" The guy behind my friend was drunk as hell and shouts, "[REAL NAME!]" The bouncer just looks at my friend, hands him back his ID and says, "better luck next time."
