why is their cable faster. and what is "extremely fast"--an hour for a full charge?

I have this one and it is really good for the price. It has .6A and 2A ports which will allow you to charge almost any USB device. I use mine to charge my Galaxy S and PS Vita.

I'm assuming it's a charge-only cable. The cable you get with your phone is charge/sync so the phone probably doesn't get the correct signal with that cable. I'm assuming you can buy more.

I'm never really measured what "extremely fast" is, but it's just as fast as plugging it into the wall charger, which is good enough for me.

I think my phone will charge like 4 or 5 times without having to recharge it battery. The build quality is very nice.

I just looked and now there is an updated version of it that is bigger for the same price: LINK

As mentioned, the two speeds are 0.6A (slow) and 2.0A (fast), so fast would charge a typical 5.3Whr cell phone battery from dead to full in about 2 hours (ignoring CC->CV) and slow would take about 7 hours.

As far as the cable, Samsung uses resistor identification on pins 4 and 5 of the USB cable to indicate the type of charger: 200kOhm (type 1) and 442kOhm (type 2). Using a cable without the internal resistors lets the charger tie these pins. I don't know why Samsung uses resistor ID's for charging types in their cables though.

so why are there two speeds and typically what is fast and what is slow. would a wall charger that came with your phone be fast? what would a car charger typically be? is all usb charging "slow" as trmiv said?

a wall charger shorts the 2 data pins in the usb connector, which tells the phone that It can draw more power (1Amp for most phones). If those aren't shorted, the phone limits itself to 500ma, to protect your computer's USB ports that can't supply more than that much.

the "fast" cable probably has these pins shorted.
