Being vaccinated now 15 (wife) and 28 (me) days post dose #2, we ventured out to run errands and shopping today.

We have picked up a lot of groceries and stuff from Sam's, Harris Teeter, our local grocery chain, and random stores, all offering curbside pickup. And a lot of beer from a local craft brewery that has curbside.

We have not been "inside" Sam's since mid-March 2020. OMG, they have move everything since then, moving stuff that has never been moved since they opened, 30 years ago. Stuff like pet food and laundry detergents. Well it is now paper products, which has "always" been in the far opposite corner of the store.

Someone at the door checking membership, which is normal, and had a supply of masks for those that might show up without. Everyone in the store was masked, though one old dude with his nose hanging out. And this is not meant to be racist, but the group... 3 - 4 Hispanic women, 4 - 5 small kids in the buggies, all with their masks under their chins eating pizza and slurping huge drinks. And block the aisles while they stopped to eat and chat. Not sure where they got the pizza as the food area up front is gone.

I have NOT missed the general public over that past year, or as my mother used to call them... "the great unwashed". But it did feel good to get out and actually pick out the steaks we wanted, and just browse the selection.

Day 14 post second dose (Pfizer) for the wife, I'm on day 27. Hopefully we are good to begin rejoining society and other vaccinated friends and family.

Isn't it supposed to be three weeks? Can't wait for second half of March when I can finally see my brother, nephew and niece, and maybe go to the zoo with them.

Texas has essentially become a free for all. Essentially anyone can get a vaccine at pharmacies that have them in supply. Previously hospitals would vaccinate anyone living with their workers(they vaccinated everyone not just front line workers). Texas is supposed to remove all restrictions later this month.

It means we have a decent supply.

Better than sitting somewhere and getting expired and thrown out because everyone is sitting around going "Will someone working on the frontlines PLEASE take this vaccine?!!"

Anyhow, I signed up for a wait-list for a hospital near my house. Got a text/email notification yesterday, so I have my first vaccine dose set for Thursday. No idea at this point what it is, but if I had to guess it would be Maderna.

Wifey got her 2x Pfizer through work already.

Well, after 2nd Pfizer, last night, arm was only slightly sore, but I went through a period where I felt chilly, and not so great, then it passed, and I was feeling fine, about an hour before bed. Woke up, arm was only slightly sore, was thinking I shouldn't take my walk, but I felt fine, so what the hey. I got to the place where I add another 1/4 mile loop or keep going on through. Feel fine, take the loop, then not so much further, it was like I just ran out of gas. Dang, got over a mile to go, and it's the hilly side. Dragged my butt home and was wiped out. It's been a few hours now, and I'm feeling much better. So a word of warning.

Seems really close to my experience, except it was the morning after.

We both have health issues that the odds are COVID would be the last thing we ever caught. It provides some motivation. We also have a big house, so we're not on top of each other, and we still get along after 51+ years.

And many of our friends we did get together 2 or 3 times a week, weren't going out either.

The Latest studies show that Pfizer immunity reaches up to 95.6% in a week to 10 days past the second dose.
Others are saying that Pfizer provides up to 90% three weeks after the first shot.

Evidence is beginning to look like Pfizer, and Moderna have hit it out of the park. The J&J single shot is also looking good.

I guess age makes a big difference. We both in our late 30's with no known health issue. So i guess we look at "life" differently.

You have a link to those numbers? That would be awesome. There is some lower risk stuff like going to zoo and going to outdoor flea markets (love buying old games) that I have still put off until 3 weeks after my second shot.

Even better, looks like this admin has worked out a deal to have Merck co manufacture J&Js vacccine.

Oh Texas is essentially a free for all for more reasons than that.

Guess our governor decided not enough people were dying for freedumb.

Opening restaurants to 100% capacity seems stupid, but ok; it's about money. But ending the mask mandate seems even dumber. I mean it doesn't hurt anyone, what are the benefits? Nothing to gain from not having that a few more months. (no I'm not saying keep it forever)

Hang in there with the new J&J vaccine now shipping it will likely only take a month or two to get to a point where everyone can have it.
Thanks. I'm not that concerned, it's not a huge burden. But still pisses me off that lots of people who are no more critical or at risk than me are just getting for no apparent reason. When I know lots of front line workers have not

Republican 2024 hopefuls are racing each other down the "COVID is over" slope atop of the bodies of their constituents. Not keeping at least the mask mandate is pure politics.

I don't know. I think Texas should open a bunch of Mosh Pits with lousy ventilation and then pay people to participate. Everyone who complains gets a free sticker, laced with Novichok. Maybe we shouldn't have taken Texas from Mexico. Anyway, we all get to 'benefit' from Texas' mistakes; and by benefit, I mean suffer. Bunch of motherfuckers!

From the article:

"The state has been averaging about 7,600 new cases a day recently,

"The state reported an average of 227 Covid-19 deaths a day over the past week."

Just *shakes head* - Those 200-ish people who die every day are probably people we don’t like much anyway.

Yeah I don’t see an upside to this for TX. Especially removing the mask mandate. As said what is the benefit now?
Their hospital capacity doesn’t look that great either.
Testing appears low.

Man, I hope this whole utility debacle turns into a big "throw the bums out" election next time. Bums being mostly Pubs.

Got second Moderna dose today hats off to UNC health services it took all of 12 minutes after walking in to get the shot. They said they had one reaction after the shot total. Does that justify the risks of everybody having to stay for 15 minutes?

If even a few people died from anaphylaxis it would be a PR disaster for the company and the government. So in this case yep.

The news already can't handle this with headlines like "Man dies after COVID vaccination" even though he got hit by a bus.

Every vaccination I have ever received asks you to sit and wait 15 minutes or more.
Fuck even a flu clinic at Walmart asks you to hang around for a little while.
