Have you worked harder then the POTUS?

I was just in an argument about this. I made a backhanded comment about Obama, and a friend scolded me for saying something bad about him. I was told "Obama works very hard to make your life better" and I came back with "Ive worked harder in my life then Obama has"

Now, of course my friend freaked out and acted like I was a complete idiot and asshole. However I keep thinking about it and I still believe what I say. I was told "Could you do his job?" and I asked "Could he do mine?". I don't know, I just feel that he has been a career politician and I have worked 40+ hours a week construction work for over 10 years. To me, there isn't even a comparison. But somehow what he does matters and I am just some disposable guy.

I understand what he does holds much greater importance, but why would that make him a better person? I still think he sucks at his job, and even if he is the best we have had in a long time that's not saying anything.

I never voted for Obama and I have no love for him, but POTUS has an exceptionally stressful job. I would never wish for it.

the difference between obama and normal people like us is that he has many staffers and assistants that to do most of the grunt work.

its for 4 to 8 years though. and they get plenty of vacations. compare that to a construction worker who stuggles to survive for decades. that is the context of this poll.

Yes, because we all know low-ambition, slackass, layabout unknowns get elected President. The term is 4/8 years, sure - but look at the pre-office and after-office pics. Massive aging and stress. Some recover a bit afterwards, but it's no easy task.

Have you seen what our last two presidents look like before and after? They might not be doing a lot of physical labor, but the stress is pretty bad. Both GWB and Obama look like they have aged a decade in a single term.

In the white collar sense, I don't think I work harder than the President. Like them, I have a public sector career. Unlike them, I go home at 5ish and nobody dies if I make a bad decision.

I think there's a distinction between "career politician" and "PotUS" that needs to recognized. Some politicians really do have it pretty slack, but those aren't the ones that end up as President. I'm guessing you could count on your fingers the number of people with a more stressful job than the President of the United States over any sustained period. Even cardiac surgeons get to be off the clock.

With regards to doing each others jobs, I am pretty damn sure he could do yours, given the relevant training. The odds you could do his, with all the training in the world, are pretty remote.

Obama has never held a non-political job. Therefor he is a career politician.

Thanks for rambling though!

working 40+ hours a week in construction does not qualify you as working hard. it qualifies you as working average.

Stress on the levels that any president or leader faces is inconceivable to most people.

I miss the halcyon days where I was only responsible for myself and the fun I chose to have after my work was done. Now that I have to provide for my family and for my employees the stress levels magnify and suddenly you have tiers of success and failure that you are held accountable for and in most cases transparent and out in the open to others. Those tiers emulsify into a melange of stress most of us can barely comprehend.

Remember that sick feeling you get in your stomach when something goes wrong in your life?

Now imagine that sick feeling when thousands or more are involved?

Time some of you kids grow up.

Of course not. it's well known that presidents work tremendous hours, whether on "vacation" or not. He certainly works harder than the OP or anybody else in this thread.

I agree with manimal on this...

Can you imagine having 300,000,000 bosses and trying to keep at least 150,000,001 of them happy enough to at least like you more than someone else? (Note: I understand the electoral process, the figures above are just for illustrative purposes... lol)

It's hard enough to keep my one boss happy.

Now I would agree that you've probably worked physically harder than the POTUS. Hell, working construction you've probably worked physically harder than alot of today's workforce.

Politics... Lots of time spent arguing, but little actually being accomplished.

I'll bet that Obama works more hours a week than most of us do, but he often doesn't have much to show for it.

Economic collapse, housing collapse, bank bailout, saving auto industry, Somali pirates, passing health care reform, ending DADT, killing Osama Bin Laden, partisan bickering, high unemployment, strained ties with key allies, uncertain reelection prospects.... um no, I have not worked harder than POTUS has.

lol you are a idiot.

I read a paper from a guy who fallowed both bush and clinton around. he said even though they are on "vacation" they are still working. While its a white collar job vs blue collar being POTUS is far far harder then any other job. the stress alone is insane.

a construction worker my work physically harder but if you think that is all there is to work you are insane.

lol, Obama works until like 11 to 1 am. The OP is a fucking retard.

Now if he were comparing himself to Bush, he might have a point (he famously 'finished' his day at 5 or 6).

And who the fuck brags about working 40+ hours? I put in an 80 hour work week last week and you don't see me bragging about it.
