My major was CIS (Computer Information Systems) and I believe this falls under the business administrations. And I was offended that my boss said this isn't a IS degree. My boss's major was Computer Science, and that is a IS degree. So what is it? CIS not a IS degree??
It all depends on the school you from which you received the degree.
At most schools, Computer Science is either under the Math department or the Engineering department, and some schools even offer it both ways (the Engineering version usually has more traditional science classes required).
I think your boss is confused. People often think that CIS is a Computer Science degree, which it isn't, but there is no standard Information Sciences degree, so I don't know what your boss is thinking. There is obviously some degree (pun intended) of overlap between the two, especially when it comes to software engineering, but they're definitely not the same thing.
