I've never been to a job interview before and I don't really know what to do, I'm a 20 year old male and since I was 16 I worked in a factory that my dad owns that puts together magazines/books/fliers/calendars and such.

About 6 months ago I moved to Los Angeles to attend LA Job Corps and I now have my certificate in Culinary Arts and ServSafe.

Job Corps is allowing me to live in the dorms for 45 more days to look for work.

Panda Express called me and requested an interview for this Wednesday, its located near USC University.

Job Corps helped me with my resume and my only real credentials are:

I have my G.E.D
Culinary Arts and SafeServe certificate
Office Administration certificate
Drivers License
and I worked for a factory for 4 years.

Also if it matters I'm half black and half mexican, I hear that race is a factor in job interviews....

Hint to them that you'll sue for discrimination if you don't get the job. Also demand at least 3$ more an hour than they offer, that's pretty standard for your area.

Work is good but, don't stop looking if you get the Panda job. Find a real restaurant cooking real food IF you decide to stick with food service.

You sound perfect for the job and are the type of person they are looking for. Smile, relax, be normal.

Yep.

Now as for your first day though, well that's a different story. There are two things you have to do on your first day:

1) Find the biggest, baddest, alpha male at the store and kick his ass. This will probably be your boss. But if it it's not, kick his ass AND your bosses ass, this is to assert your dominance in the workplace. If possible stab them in the neck with chopsticks, this shows culture that you know how to use the weapons of their native people.

2) After you kick their ass, grab the cutest girl there and slap her on the butt and kiss her. She will be your trophy girl and the bearer of your children as long as you remain employed, and no other alpha males beat you for dominance of the workplace. If that happens well, yeah you're pretty much done at that point.

FACT: Panda Express is NOT real Chinese Food - just like Taco Bell is NOT real Mexican Food...

Don't say that in the interview or you won't get the job...

That's pure gold right there.

shower, put on clean clothes, and show up on time and you'll have an immediate edge over 99% of applicants.

Why did you leave your dad's factory where you would be a shoe in to take it over?
The experience and connections you gained there would give you many more opportunities than working at Panda Express in LA.

I'm guessing you're following your dreams to be a chef in LA?
You need to go back to your dad's factory and learn all you can.
Life isn't fun for a fast food worker; especially managers.

... I'm half black and half mexican.

Hopefully you were blessed with the best genetics from each half.

Make sure Panda Express is just a quick stepping stone to something better. That place sucks.

Advice: Don't mention that it's not real Chinese food

Real advice: Dress for success. Be confident and friendly.

Mexican, you say? You got a 90% chance of getting the job.

I'm half Mexican and half Black, when most people look at me they immediately classify me as Black.

And I don't speak a lick of Spanish, cant even count to 10.

I left the factory because it was in the middle of nowhere, had bad hours, and paid $7 hour. Also I have 2 older brothers who are much more involved in the factory then I am so if anyone is going to "take it over" it would be them, and there are no important "connections" there.

And I don't really like cooking I plan on becoming a engineer, I just wanted a job that is near a college campus so I don't have to commute far and a job that I can work at night so I can go to school during the day.

If you have a culinary certificate, you can probably get a better job than Panda Express. Try for somewhere with a liquor license.

As far as the interview, you shouldn't have much to be worried about.

Panda Express is delicious. I honestly thought about getting a part time job there once so I could figure out the recipes.
