having problems with starting win xp

I have the drive its ide from my win xp. I put in a new cpu/mb everything seems fine but when I try to boot to the xp drive , I get a window that windows is not running and gives me choices to boot.

I have tried last config, safe mode....whatever choice I make I can see windows xp quickly flash on the screen then the computer resets and goes thru this all over again. the drive shows up as its booting but keeps going to this same screen.

I have tried to install fresh to another drive all goes well but it will not accept my license /prod key, so I cant even do a new install
What can I try, am I screwed? any help I will really appreciate thank you

You're screwed. Buy Windows 7.

Btw, you cannot easily transfer a HD with an existing Windows install to new hardware. Win7 is more lenient than XP in that regards, but it's definitely not foolproof in either case.

And the reason that your fresh install wouldn't take the product key, is because your install disc is not matched to your product key type. You need to find out what product key type you have, and then get a matching install disc. Not all discs install all products. Most importantly, you need to match OEM or Retail, and XP Home, Media Center, or Pro, and additionally, you may need to match the service pack revision.
