here is what I am working with...

2 windows XP machines(both have xp firewall disabled)
first machine is hardwired into my linksys 802.11b router, 2nd machine uses wireless 802.11b adapter connection to the router
I did network setup on both and used the same workgroup, and did the option where the comp connects through a hub or router...
the computers wont see each other for some reason, it always times out and says "the network is not accessible" I am wondering what the problem is...

If you need more info let me know....

First of all, ditch the network setup wizard. All you should need are the standard TCP/IP settings. Are you able to get to the router through your computer (you should be able to type in an IP address into your browser...check your router documentation for more info)? Are you able to ping the router?

yes I can get into the router setup fine aka 192.168.1.1 and I can ping the router perfectly.

Okay, disable the wizard stuff on both computers...set them to obtain IP address automatically. Then set your router to give out IP addresses (should be somewhere under DHCP). Once done, you should be able to view the computers connected to the router as well as their IPs. If that works, try pinging one computer's IP from another. I've never used your router but that's the general way things go

I know and I have already done that, I have .100 and my other PC has .101, yet they refuse to see each other in My Network Places at all =/

But you can ping them, right? I don't have much experience with the Network Places...it always seems iffy to me. Sometimes computers show up, sometimes they don't. Here's two things to check though...first check to make sure they have the same workgroup name. Second, try sharing a directory on each.

Also, I know you said you had the XP firewall off. You're not running any other firewall stuff like ZoneAlarm, are you?

One of my PC's is running Norton Internet Security, but I setup the local zone settings so there should not be a problem...

-How do I check to see what workgroup they are on

I'm not on an XP machine right now...I think it's somewhere under the network settings. On the W2K box I'm on, it's under:

START > SETTINGS > NETWORK & DIALUP > ADVANCED > NETWORK IDENTIFICATION > PROPERTIES

Even though your settings for Norton are for local, it could still be blocking NetBIOS traffic (some firewalls block local NetBIOS traffic by default). Try disabling Norton while setting up your network...just complicates things.

For some reason I cannot ping my other computer's IP address, and they are both on the same workgroup, and I have Norton Disabled but it still won't work =/
