Check if you've got netgear - some of their routers do not have easily removable antennas.

Nvm, I found the manual on their website http://www.hawkingtech.com/prodSpec.php?ProdID=145

I already have all Hawking products for my network. The antenna connector is a proprietary Hawking thing. I do think they make good products, but that's just me.

incorrect. this will work with any wireless product with an standard SMA or TNC connection (adapter included) there's a wire that comes out from the bottom of the white stick and you screw it onto a NIC or router.

this is omni-directional though, so it's best used with a router. you want a directional one to use with a NIC. i got one at frys black friday and it works great with a cheap airlink NIC that i also got.

Your skills seem to be a bit limited as evidenced by your signature linking ability and simple understanding of the edit function. I can only imagine how perplexing screwing on an antenna must seem.

my SMC barracade doesn't. that's why i had to use the antenna on my NIC instead.

Oh wise one, I bow before ye sagicious wit. Harken, for ye must feel most noble when ablest not to assit yet feeleth righteos in dis.

As evidenced by your complete lack of candor, you must have been so excited to hit the submit button that you felt that piling on about "how perplexing screwing on an antenna must be" was appropriate even though nothing in my post mentions screwing on the antenna, much less having problems doing so.

Oh, I see now. It makes you look all the more wise and witty if you can make it seem like I'm stupid beyond belief.

Is this how you got to be *Golden Member*? By capping on others? Maybe if you had to take a negative point each time you submit in arrogance, you might think twice about your total uselessness to the thread.

As per my sig line, you think maybe I've been trying to figure out the custom sig functions but hadn't got it right just yet? Maybe. Is a helpful PM of advice beyond your realm of possible responses? Obviously. Buyt you're the big man now. Bet you even emailed a couple of your buddies "Hey go look at the witty smackdown I just posted"

But, you know what, it also serves as a good way to reel-in the pompous elitists in the crowd.

If you would like some pointers on etiquette, feel free to PM me. If you are local, I'll be glad to do so in person. Otherwise, as stand on your pedastal, basking in the glow of your magnimonious wit, understand that I will remember you forever as a pompous, selfless, jerk, whose threads are deserving of crapping whenever possible.

Can anyone here comment as to the additional range for a 6dB antenna over the "basic" antenna on a pci wireless nic?

Range without vs range with?

I bought this same exact antenna for my gf and I've got to say I'm impressed. I've got it hooked up to a Netgear WG311 802.11g card and it even picks up her next door neighbor's signal. I just unscrewed the original antenna and screwed in this one. Signal strength is best if you keep things on the same plane. I used to leave the antenna below her desk but after I raised it to table-top level, the reception was excellent. It used to have dropped connections at 10-20% but now its up at around 85% reception @ 46Mbps. Great buy for this price, however, I did have to get an extension cable to get enough length to place it on the desk.

The range is currently about 50ft through 2 room walls and a glass sliding door. These are homes built in the 1950's so the walls are thick drywall or even plaster.

I stand corrected. Will be more careful with my replies...
