They should combine season 7 and 8 considering its going to be 13-4 episodes, but realistically that might be too demanding to get done with scheduling.

I had no idea until I came across a Youtube video but Grand Maester Pycell, played by Julian Glover, also played in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, General Veers, the guy in the AT-AT on Hoth.

Weird, I introduced a friend to the show and I told him exactly this last Sunday night.

I learned that in second season but I failed to recognize him and he had tons of screen time. It also took me a second to recognize Conleth Hill (Varys) first time I saw him out of character, hair made a big difference:

In case you missed it... all hell is starting to break loose.

Also a new thread may be needed.

I'm a bit surprised that they revealed it to him so early! But it looks like the next episode should be jumping into the action?

EDIT:

Oh, and I tried watching it using Amazon Prime Video Channel, but ugh... it just isn't setup well. Amazon said there was a "Watch Live" option, but I didn't see such a thing. Worst off, if I want to use the HBO NOW app, you have to link your accounts, but you cannot link to an existing account... or at least I couldn't find a way as it insisted upon me creating a new one. Ended up being quite annoying especially as I was worried that it wouldn't let me watch it. I recall trying HBO NOW in the past, and you had to wait to watch the show later on.

Just subscribed directly to HBO NOW instead. Much easier. (The Amazon Prime Video one was just a trial anyway.)

yeah, I had to check before hand, because I had previously used the Amazon free trial (and sometimes paid) for Showtime and Cinemax, and I only recall doing it at the end of seasons that I want to watch....and know that those are released a few hours to a day late. ....but they all have the "live option" when you scroll to the bottom of the channel menu. I never used it before, but then googled about that for Amazon HBO, before jumping on it yesterday ahead of GoT...but it worked tonight. Just leave it on the main live HBO channel and it plays through. No pause though, of course.

The various premium channel subs through Prime are usually $10 or $15 per month (I think only HBO is $15?). So, I wait until there are a couple of shows, maybe with multiple seasons that I want to binge or catch up on, then I grab them for a month. Worked so far.

but yeah..first episode and stumbly Sam spills all the beans about Jon? Talk about conflict coming up. blahhhh.

Also, this was supposed to be 6, 1.5hr episodes, according to the last two years; but now it's 8 episodes? I wonder if episodes 7 and 8 will be ~2 hours each?

HBO is the same price ($15) whether through Amazon or HBO itself. Although, if you want HBO and Cinemax, it looks like you can save a couple dollars if you bundle them together through Amazon.

I was actually a bit worried that I'd have to wait since I started a couple minutes late, but the episode was just sitting there for me to play when I went to season 8 of Game of Thrones. I am curious whether they let you fast forward ahead of the actual airing (in other words, an easy way to get spoilers), but they do let you pause.

hmm, were you watching the live channels through Amazon? I watched the live channel earlier today to test it, and it wouldn't let me pause. Anything "in-demand" of course, I could pause and FF.

I didn't check to see if (what would be called the) in demand content was available at time of release. It was at least available after the live broadcast tonight, though.

Where did you hear it will be 8 episodes?

Nah, I was watching the episode directly on HBO NOW through the episode selection. Although, while they may make Game of Thrones available immediately through on demand, and I wonder if they'll keep doing that, I had to watch Last Week Tonight through Amazon as I don't think it's available for on-demand viewing until an hour after it starts. (The episode just finished and it's still not listed on HBO NOW.)

Talk about time and place convos.. The entire episode Jon was saying titles didn't matter (and was right) and then Sam tells him he's tech in line for the throne. At best they'd fracture the army they have if it got out. This crap should have waited to see if Jon even survives the battle with the White Walkers. If he dies, it's even more pointless.

On a side note... you thought your dog / cat watching you while you were getting kinky with your other was bad enough.

Imagine what it would be like if your pet was big enough to swallow you whole as we almost saw.

My wife was very stressed out about the 6-episode format during last night's episode. While Dany and Jon were flying around on the dragons, she was like "this is beautiful, but OMG there's no time for this... move this shit along!"

She has a point. There is so much to cram in that it's difficult to imagine everything being addressed in cohesive fashion. Given the previews for next week, I'm wondering if they might resolve the Night King in the next 2 episodes and then use the last couple episodes to go back where we started - the human political struggles.

My Predictions:

The Happy Ending:
The cracks in the allies at Winterfell are repaired after successfully fighting off the Night Kings army. They present a more or less united front in fighting Cersei.

Bronn decides to join the winning side with Tyrion and Jaimie as that’s his best bet for a castle.

The GoT Ending:
The bombshell news that some are saying John is a Targaryen coupled with the underlying hostility from the Northerners and possible loss of dragons during the battle with the Night King triggers Daenerys mad queen side by thinking he’s betrayed her and Jon is forced to kill her.

Bronn kills one of the brothers (Tyrion maybe) and then is killed in turn by the other brother. If Jamie is left he ends up killing Cersei.

With Daenerys dead along with her dragons and the Night King magic leaves the realm again as does the spell keeping Jon alive as Azor Ahai and he dies from his original chest wounds. Sansa ends up on the throne as queen of the ashes.

I think Sam figures out a spell to undue the magic on the white walkers, turning them back human. But only after a long battle that decimates both sides. They realize Cersei is the true enemy and then the Night King, Jon Snow, and Daenerys ride out on their 3 dragons to burn Cersei's fleet and army.

Tada, happy ending. Im hoping for something more morbid though. I like Paratus' GOT ending
