Doubt it. Ultimately he told them the direction and where he thought she should go and how long it would take.

They couldn't just rush her back to westeros without developing her a bit more, otherwise the arc would have been even less pointless than it is now.

Look at the whole Dorne thing, or gendry, or the iron born. All kinda pointless.

Look at the whole lannisters vs starks. The entire war died without any major conflict between the two. The two opposing sides haven't even managed to destroy themselves.

He can't end anything.

A lot of good writers come out with a good first couple books and then the suck. Look at Frank Herbert. Dune was awesome and the it just went downhill from there. Now to have his son and the "lost transcripts" (great mcguffin). You'll get the same with Martin unless he finishes it.

They aren't horrible books (got and dune), they just don't live up to the original or the hype. It's too bad since it could be so much more.

Actually we don't know how the books will conclude the Dorne or Arya Stories yet. One can criticize the many plot lines for inclusion in a show (it is too much) but we don't know how they will turn out yet. They might just work better in one format than another.

Yeah Dorne was horrible in the show but it was pretty much as different from the source as could be. Now to be fair the show has also deviated from the source material for the better.

As for Dune. The middle books did drag but the last 2 written by Frank Herbert before he died are actually the ones I go back to the most besides the original novel. God Emperor had an interesting epilogue that hints at things that are obliquely referenced to in the last two books (why are these dangerous interlopers running back from deep space to the known universe?).
I agree about the lost transcripts.
The last book ended on a cliffhanger and it's fairly obvious at least one more book was due when he died. It's too bad that the two characters we see in the last chapter are ret-conned into something else entirely by his son.
If Frank Herbert been able to finish a 7th Dune book that kept up with the 5th and 6th books I think it would have ended well and would've been regarded as a decent series whose ending did not quite match the quality of the original novel but wasn't as bad as his son's ret-conned contributions.

Sure people who only watch the show (not necessarily you) can bag on the books all they want (they are not without flaws after all) but it was those story lines that attracted the producers who adapted them into a fine series despite the rough edges around the recent seasons. Adaptations are tricky and difficult depending on the source material.

The way I have heard it: When the show developers met with GRR about making the series, he first off made them
guess who Jon's mother was.
They obviously passed the test, and he has told them how he planned to end the series. So, there is a basic framework from here on out. The caveat is that they can dick up many of the things leading to it.
.......
I think the producers only knew the answer to the test by reading/joining online discussions/websites. IIRC there was hardly any clues in the book about that.

Considering how the writing has gone with Arya's character this season, I fully expect Littlefinger to help Jon/Sansa win back Winterfell and then promptly retreat back to the Vale and promise to aid them further on with no strings attached re: support of the Vale army, possibly semi-retire as an honest, profitable, brothel owner and perhaps treasury to the kingdom.

Theres absolutely no way Littlefinger is doing any of this just to retire as a big brothel owner after starting the war of the five kings. He was already a profitable brothel keeper and council member before everything happened. He wants a chunk of westeros for himself.

Best episode ever.
Very satisfying especially with the dogs. Nice puppy, d'oh!

Also great fight scene really tried to capture the confusion of battle. Not sure I bought the piles of bodies towering to the sky, but it was an interesting visual effect that was then used in an interesting way. So that was the one surprise for me in the episode.

The scene with Rickon was too predictable but then it wouldn't have been Ramsay if he hadn't done something like that.

Great scene with the dragons too - put something hot and sexy between your legs.

My main disappointment is that not much happened that really surprised me. It was a very "hollywood" episode.

Probably the book reader side of me but man I'm disappointed in that episode. Glad Ramsay got his but thought the way they handled Rickon was worthless and it ruined the whole episode for me.

I don't care if it was predictable or not.

Off to watch it again.

Awesome episode, wouldn't have asked for more. We were due for something like this. The battle scene was top, Sansa watching Ramsey being shred by his own dogs, Jon Snow being the epic swordsman that he is, loved it.

Also can't wait to see what Davos will do with the toy deer he found. Clearly made some memories resurfaced and now he seem to have some kind of vendetta. The Red Woman will probably show her true form to Davos and maybe Snow...

Wow the finale better deliver after episode 9!

Ideally, Sansa should have kept Ramsay alive and torture him daily. Then as reward for helping her, she gives Ramsay to Theon as gift. Now Theon acts like Reek, pretends to rescue his master, takes him around only to bring Ramsay back to Winterfell and the cell where he is tortured. To make the story between Ramsay and Theon go full circle. Theon finds the best Maesters (Qyburn level Maesters) and brings them to Winterfell. On purpose, Theon talks to the Maesters in presence of captive Ramsay. They whisper back and forth while Ramsay tries to figure out what's going on. Then the Maesters say "it can be done but only with a fresh severed limb". Now Theon cuts Ramsay's dick off, Maesters attach the dick to Theon and it's fully functional! Theon then organizes an orgy in Ramsay's cell, fucks the finest whores he can find while Ramsay watches...

we need an up vote kind of system here, I would give you gold for this.

What an epic episode!! It couldn't have gone any better. I'm not gonna lie though, that scene where John's getting buried in those bodies did shake me up a bit. I mean, that battle is just brutal, holy crap. Seeing Ramsay run like a bitch, get smashed to a pulp, and eaten by his dogs.. hell yes!!!

Justice! Awesome episode. About a dozen times I assumed Jon Snow was going to bite the dust. The two cavalries colliding into combat was ridiculous.

Awesome episode and in my opinion one of the better battles I've seen since the opening battle in Gladiator. As another poster mentioned, it portrayed the confusion and randomness of war. I also liked how Sansa gave Jon the look that said "let me be the one to finish him" as he was beating Ramsey into a pulp.

This season is wrapping up quite well, but I do agree with others that Arya's story could have been done differently.

That was also the reaction in our living room watching it. We had to watch it twice too; outstanding episode.

I had hoped for Ramsey getting fed to his dogs, but thought they might find a way to let Theon be involved. Makes more sense it was Sansa. The show, outside of Arya's healing factor bit, has been very pragmatic. Not a bad thing IMO, though it does tend to make things more predictable.

And since I had written "The best Nelson pointing and laughing moment would be if Ramsey gets fed to them - HA ha, you got ate by your own dogs!"

Also, Sansa just shut me up. I have been critical of the character, but she won me over tonight.

what was devos going to do with his archers in close combat?!
a little bit unbelievable that jon got his army surrounded like that.

and if devos didn't break position, then jon wouldn't have gotten surrounded?

why did the opening credits show riverrun and bravoos?
I didn't see any scenes that involve either one of them.

now I'm dying to know what's Littlefinger's price for helping?
sansa in marriage??

Sansa must have known Vale army was almost there to join the battle, but withheld the information from Jon's army. Ramsey is a very guarded person, so Sansa knew that Ramsey would retreat back to Winterfell at the first sign of Vale army in the field. Instead, she allows Jon to react to Ramsey's game, and uses his army as bait for Ramsey to commit all of his troop into a single location. The Vale army swoops in, and Ramsey has no troops to defend his castle sealing his fate.

I would say Jon & Ramsey played right into Sansa's hands.
