My wife was very stressed out about the 6-episode format during last night's episode. While Dany and Jon were flying around on the dragons, she was like "this is beautiful, but OMG there's no time for this... move this shit along!"

She has a point. There is so much to cram in that it's difficult to imagine everything being addressed in cohesive fashion. Given the previews for next week, I'm wondering if they might resolve the Night King in the next 2 episodes and then use the last couple episodes to go back where we started - the human political struggles.

agreed. I had recalled that they were supposed to be 1.5 hour episodes, so I didn't mind it...but there is still a lot of cramming to do if they aren't doing that.

......of course, all it takes is one long battle in one episode to wipe out most characters, if necessary.

I think Sam figures out a spell to undue the magic on the white walkers, turning them back human. But only after a long battle that decimates both sides. They realize Cersei is the true enemy and then the Night King, Jon Snow, and Daenerys ride out on their 3 dragons to burn Cersei's fleet and army.

Tada, happy ending. Im hoping for something more morbid though. I like Paratus' GOT ending

I'm going with Bran, because isn't he probably the Night King? --the Three-eyed Raven and Night King are kinda co-existing, identical entities that are forever bound or something. ...it could be that the easiest solution might be to just kill Bran, ending the cycle of perpetual Three Eyed Ravens, where maybe the Night King can't exist without a Three Eyed Raven in the world?

But didn't they show that the Children of the Forest created the White Walkers by stabbing that dagger into one of the First Men? Although, I don't know if that suggest that the initial person was the Night King, or if he just came about later on.

Yeah--didn't they create the Night King/White Walkers to defeat something else? I only watched through the last couple episodes of the previous season and so those scenes with boring Bran doing boring Bran things in that tree are a bit hazy to me right now. I seem to recall something that directly connected the Night King with the Raven...which I mean if it's simply that he was created by those folks, that could be it, maybe.

Bran still doesn't have "full control" of his powers and so is missing pieces of the knowledge, so those kind of gaps may still be filled.

The children created them as a weapon against the first men. Eventually the children lost control of them and had to ally with man to fight against them.

Season 8 Premiere was perfect. That awkward scene at the very end was awesome.

Bran: "I'm waiting for an old friend.

Also who do you think makes it widely known what only 4 characters (iirc) know about Jon's parentage?

__________

I don't know..I read all the books way back in the day...the books/show are all sorta blurring together.. At least with the tv series its easy to catch up on..unlike waiting years between each book that I had to suffer through.

No time to read this entire thread but IMO I think Jon and Dany are heading towards a confrontation.

"Nothing lasts forever" said Varys whilst looking at Jon and Dany. Could be talking about their relationship. We also know that Sansa and Arya aren't taken with Dany and are pressing him to reclaim his crown. Even Sam seems uneasy with her, and now he has a motive to backstab her with the roasting of his brother.

This would also tie in with the theme on the show. I cannot see a happy ending with Jon and Dany co-ruling Westeros especially with the incest thing.

Here's how I see it.

At some point Dany will do something overly harsh (as she has done before) and Jon will rebuff it. At this point Arya/Sansa will press him to flip and I think he will, getting the north behind him.

The last 4 episodes are all right about 80 minutes.

Only these first two episodes are under 60 minutes.

They have plenty of time. There's a reason they only have so many episodes - it's not like they were constrained from above, executives saying no more than 6 episodes.. oh but they can be long episodes...
This is the story they came up with, and they didn't need to "fit" it - it's how it ended up.

I have a feeling these first two episodes are going to try to cram in a lot of background and exposition of sorts, and it'll be the final four episodes that really feels like the culmination of everything. These are the last pieces that need to fall in place for the true finale to take shape.

I think you are right, or at least quite close. I personally think Dany may come around in the end, but happy endings are very rare in this series. But I think Jon will definitely try to approach her level-headed and aim to keep the relationship with her and she'll, well, be Dany.

Maybe she even asks the dragons to scorch him but they'll refuse, having become quite fond of him by that point.

Now I'm just wishful thinking haha

To be fair it was no longer a kid, the kid would have died long ago. That was a white walker.

But yes, once was more than enough, this barely squeaks by in my opinion. This show pulls no punches that's for damn sure. Raw.

I thought that was a weird scene. We've never seen the Night King leave a trophy or warning before (or whatever that was)... just a swath of death and destruction. It looked cool, but didn't really fit with anything we've seen to date.

This first episode was mediocre at best. Lots of fluff and Sam being little bitch Sam like always running to Jon for Revenge but being the bitch he his first needing permission from Bran to spill the beans.

This whole siutation makes the Bran is the night king rumor actually far more believable. Why the hell would they tell Jon this otherwise except to add conflict and drama? Rationally speaking there is 0 advantage of him knowing this of the goal is to beat the walkers. Everything was going fine enough, no need to rattle the cages.

I have to disagree and thought this 1st episode was a great throwback to the original character of the series. More careful maneuvering and detailed setup, less Hollywood magic and fireworks (although Jon soaring through the clouds on his namesake dragon was pretty epic).

The whole deal with Sam spilling the beans all of a sudden to Jon was a great way to convey Daenerys is a mad king. Her lack of empathy for Sam by saying "oh yeah, by the way, i believe it was your father and brother that i turned into crispy critters", right after showing her gratitude for helping Sir Jorah, is sociopath behavior.

I liked the new episode. I just wish there was more of them. Man it went by faster, even though it was longer than usual.

I hope Jonny Boy gets to do some aunt f*cking before he finds out! Poor bastard (teehee)

Well in the pilot episode's first sequence a White Walker but not necessarily the Night King did throw a head at the Crow that they left alive and allowed him to flee perhaps to let him warn the South.
So perhaps the Night King will occasionally give warnings
"We're back and active north of the wall" in the first episode.
"We broke the wall and are South of the Wall... What now Bitches?" first episode of the last season.

Maybe...

I don't really care how it ends... I am just holding onto hope that 1 of the 5 remaining episodes opens up with a brief flashback to Syrio telling Arya to run with the "not today" quote. I will have an instant nerdgasm as it transitions to confirmation that Syrio survived and is in fact Jaqen H'ghar.

The next scene could be Jon, the Night King, and a dragon having a threesome and who gives a shit... Syrio's back bitches!!!!!

On a side note... you thought your dog / cat watching you while you were getting kinky with your other was bad enough.

Imagine what it would be like if your pet was big enough to swallow you whole as we almost saw.

Imagine it was Bran watching you by warging through the dragon. GOT style Porn.
