I was watching the episode and when the guys came out of the elevator, I'm like "Why the hell is Richard wearing kneepads?" So I paused the video, searched, before he even tripped.

The real clue is in the full story behind "Meinertzhagen's Haversack" (the episode title), which is briefly and (probably intentionally) poorly described by Jared. Look it up.

ok, makes sense now that I looked up Meinertzhagen's Haversack.
From wikipedia "he let a haversack containing false British battle plans fall into Ottoman military hands"

Yeah, that is nothing like what Jared explained.

I'm not seeing kneepads though. he didn't even fall on his knees either.

And I hadn't even noticed... Richard and (everyone else) is carrying a backpack or shoulder bag. So why is he carrying a folder with documents that he intends to shred?

He should have scribbled Top Secret all over the folder in red marker....but too obvious?

as far as the Ruse, Jared was mentioning that they should behave normally and all that. While the title certainly gives it all away, now, I guess we assume they had further discussion that wasn't shown about planting false plans.

....still silly. Why not just tell CEO about the real problem? (I know...lack of drama blah blah blah)

It's like none of you realize that he's the stereotypical uncoordinated awkward nerd. It wasn't a ruse, he's just clumsy. Practically anything that can go wrong with him does. Like the slipping and busting his nose on the desk.

I would imagine the kneepad was simply so he didn't hurt himself in the fall (as an actor).

just caught up on all 4 episodes. man this show is fantastic. i love all of the nerd speak in this show as well as how authentic the code stuff is.

my favorite one so far this season was the "TODO" in the code when denish and gilfoil were looking at code on like a projector. it was a function named "hammingSandwich" or something like that, and the comment above was

Code:
// TOneverDO: change name

lol the never in there is great because as a dev, i know that most TODO's aren't really "to do"s in the end.

Yeah that really seems to have been as dumb as it appeared.

I guess the kneepads were simply a safety precaution for the Richard actor with the upcoming stunt.

They are supposed to be Google as if lead by a self-important doucheclown like Steve Jobs (Gavin Belson)

It's been fairly well established that Gavin Belson is based on Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce.com. No doubt there are quirks from other big SV names thrown in as well.

Hooli is based on a mix of Silicon Valley companies, primarily Google I think.

oh you'e right. Gavin is probably more Zuckerburg than he is Jobs. Both were/are epic douches.

He seems more modeled after Larry Ellison than either of those two IMO.

edit: Or Marc Benioff.

Really love this show. Discovered it a few days back & watched every episode in 2 days. Now I am caught up & current. WOW! How did I miss this show? Even my wife, who is a technophobe loves it. Great characters & dialogue.
I just assumed Hooli was a combination of Google & Facebook.

For some reason, his complete disgust and disdain for the bulldog made me laugh. Meanwhile the dog just sat there...panting.

I love when he gets the dog wheeled back up to the front to showcase it a second time before getting it pushed offstage again for being disgusting

YEAP! It's like he regrets the decision to bring the dog back -- he's so disgusting.

LOL, just caught the latest episode, I'm a huge fan, and love the series.

The bulldog scene was great and the CEO of PP being fired was awesome.

I just want to register my extreme love for this series. You could quibble that gilfoyle's "genius" improvement to the throughput of the box -- ZOMG, just reviewing changes to each file not the entire file -- is more basic than genius, but I guess it's still light years better than, "ENHANCE!"

Most of the tech-speak in the show is complete BS, but good enough to make it sound plausible. Easy enough to suspend disbelief. Throw in some industry buzzwords and a few terms from CS 101 and you'll get close enough to make it sound good.
