When I want to load asus ez flash with alt+f2 or if i want to boot cd's I get black screen and when I'm in vista and install ati catalyst 7.7 or 7.8beta vista just dont boot up and it crash and restart everytime and when i boot in safe mode it says vista have recoverend from blue screen. u sure it's the video card? was it giving you these problems before you installed the driver? has it ever run on any other driver or has it always done this? also, i've never personally used vista so i dunno if it would stop you from doing this, or even if it needs a different driver, but are you sure you didn't install the xp driver? if all else fails, try omega drivers.

That doesn't sound like Video issue.. more like OS or mobo. This issue i remember when i updated my Windows XP SP1 to SP2 which caused this same issue but then i found out that mobo wasn't comptaible with SP2.

if you're getting lockups or problems before vista starts loading, you have a hardware problem.

does your mobo need a bios flash to support a 2900xt? is your psu up to snuff? are all your power and ide/sata cables plugged in firmly into the appropriate slots? quintuple check them. <g>
reseat all the cards on the mobo. set your bios to default values. reseat your ram and memtest it. if you have cpu powerplugs make sure they are plugged into your mobo. are your cpu/chipset/vid card fans working? if there's still a problem, strip your system down and add back one item at a time. testing your system for stability after you add back one item.

this would only affect you in vista... get the latest drivers from your motherboard site. the 8.40rc3 beta can be unstable. so you might want to stick to 7.7 for the next couple of weeks or at least till you get this straightened out. if you find a good (and free) driver cleaner for vista let me know please. the only sure way i've found to get rid of old ati junk in vista is to format/reinstall vista.

we doubt you have tried *all* of this

of course it could be bad HW .. but it could be also a bad or underpowered PS ... or something as simple as your your PCIe card not plugged in firmly or your 2x6 pins not covering the right 6-pins - [it's possible]

before you RMA, make sure you reset everything in BIOS to 'optimized defaults' if you changed anything ... and did you flash your MB's BIOS to the latest version?

what is *ALL* your HW including the RAM and PS?

what you said here doesn't make a lot of sense to me:

psu is corsair hx620 everything is connected well and ram is crucial pc8500(no memtest errors) and bios is lastest version(I did flash bios with old normal pci vga card to get screen). I tried catalyst 7.7 only on fresh vista reinstall and tried vga drivers from cd. Got more idea's? Can it be a broken vga card or mobo? Thanks.

take it all apart and try again ... the *absolute minimum* HW needed to boot up ... load optimized defaults ... switch PCIe plugs

yes it *can* be bad HW ... if you still have problems with <<"When I want to load asus ez flash with alt+f2 or if i want to boot cd's I get black screen">> you don't need to go further by installing Vista ... fix that problem - or request a RMA if you can't figure it out

HOW did you flash to the latest BIOS if you can't access Ez flash?

what HD? .. SATA or PATA ... using RAID?

*FULL details* please ... i cannot "visualize" and diagnose your rig psychically
... at least not this morning ... and i am way too cranky to keep asking you over-and-over

The system has allready the absolute miminum hardware to boot up and I used a old pci vga card to get screen to flash the bios to get in ez flash and using seagate sata 500gb(no raid)

I tried a fresh winxp install and after installing the drivers the system doesnt crash, but when I try on a fresh vista install the system crash. Is the vga card broken or mobo?

Sounds like motherboard to me... but without another PCI-E card to verify you can't be sure if it's the video card or motherboard.. (Yes a PCI card will get it to work, but it's not exactly an apples-apples comparison)..

sounds like vista doesn't like your hardware.

since your RAM appears to be OK and two different video cards have the *same* problem - which are before boot-up - it appears to be your MB

I have the issue only with the pci-e vga card and not with the normal pci vga card.

OK, if everything is good and both XP and Vista run on your PCI card in your MB ... then the 2900xt is likely to blame [or the PS ... or the connectors to the 2900xt .. or - unlikely - that the BIOS is configured wrong only for PCI cards ]

we are finally narrowing it down
