If this is true, it sure explains why AMD is in no rush to release the Radeon 2900XTX. I could care either way since I already picked up a Geforce 8800GTS 640MB a long long time ago.

Hopefully it's just premature driver issue.

"The benchmarks DailyTech performed yesterday utilized release candidate drivers. Today's tests used retail drivers ATI released to its board partners."

Something doesn't seem right with those benches. It barely beats the X2900XT. Also, look at Oblivion scores for 1280x1024 & 1600x1200...the XT takes no hit and the XTX takes a good sized hit going to the higher resolution. I don't think the XTX will be twice as fast but maybe 5-10% faster than the XT.

It's a bad blow....wow...i'm surprised they cannot beat 6 months old GTX. I'm going to get another GTX for SLI Setup...i always knew i didn't spend 600 bucks for nothing...thank God

While it's not finalized, I think the two manufacturers that are not going to release the 2900XTX in their portfolio are Connect3d and HIS.

Sapphire is highly doubted since they usually remain loyal to ATI releases.

Holy moly donut shop!

Wow. Bust of the century.

If true, DAAMIT has a true FX 5800u on their hands.

Ok. Listen up guys.

The XTX that was benched had exactly a 5 mhz core clock advantage over the XT.

Now, the XTX had a memory bandwidth advantage due to faster RAM.

XTX memory bandwidth is 129GB/s compared to the XT's 102.4GB/s.

It's more than possible that neither the XT nor the XTX are bandwidth limited. If that is the case, the scores make perfect sense since the XTX is only 5 mhz faster on the core.

EDIT: Furthermore, I am inclined to believe that my above scenario is true because the GTX only has 96GB/s and yet rapes both the XTX and the XT.

Ouch.. Competitive pricing is their only avenue of success. If they offer the HD2900XTX (in its current state) somewhere between the 8800GTS 640 and GTX, then all that's left to hope for is a big enough case!

Well, by inceasing the memory bus, all they did was move the bottleneck from one area of the graphics card to another. I wonder what is the bottleneck on the 2900XTX as it can't be the memory.

Can they make a profit with 1GB GDDR4? So after all the hype of those stream processors and memory bandwidth, it doesn't mean anything in real life performance? I hope the official bench will look better, else it's going to be a big disappointment.

Read my above post. The XTX is only 5 mhz faster on the core clock compared to the XT.

It could be the drivers, but if the drivers are that poor this close to release, then they'll have way more work than Nvidia does as far as drivers are concerned.

It just doesnt scale any higher i guess thats the limit of the r600 core... cannot render more than that... dissapointing.

IF THEY HAD SUCCES OF COURSE THEY WOULDA RELEASED IT BY NOW... and every1 would be happy... but coz of these problems thy just kept pushin... hoping to squeeze some more performance...

Ok kids show is over, go back to ur GTX err beds.

I donno if i should wait 3 weeks to see what they have in the $300 price point or just get a damn 320 gts... such a waste of time and nerves till now

This looks very unimpressive. Note that their 8800GTX is clocked somewhat higher than a reference model. Although that wouldn't make up for the kind of disparity we're seeing here.

I guess their main savior will be the fact they have lower end cards available and working drivers for Vista...?

Best post here. This guy gets why the card is performing at low numbers.

The truth is, having a better memory and interface doesn't make a card better.

How good would a 7600GT with 1GB of GDDR4 be? Not much better than a 256mb GDDR2 version. Why? Because of the core.

You can lower the shrink size, put better ram on it, faster ram, better memory interface. No matter what you do, nothing changes the actual limitations of what a chip can or can't do with rendering duties.

The r600 just couldn't cut it. badly designed core imo.

Yesterday, April 25, 2007 - a date which will live in infamy - the HD 2900XTX was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of ATI/AMD

the R600 is going to make the all time Top Ten list for biggest disappointments ever. How many months were people waiting for this card, and this is what comes out of it? Thats just wrong...

Hope so. No one will see me trying to nail AMD/ATi's coffin shut. I enjoy the competition.

They should be making a profit, I mean, what does their profit margin look like? I'm no businessman, but I pray it doesn't cost them anywhere near $500 to produce each X2900XTX.
