I want to upgrade my graphics card and thinking about 4670. My current rig:
amd athlon 3000 1.8 ghz
512mb ram ( previously I had 2 gb but my mobo got wrong and 3 of the dimm slots are not working)
nvidia 7300gt 512mb
I play my games in 1440*900 (19 inch widescreen lcd). I prefer to turn on AA in gaming. I play all types of games. Does 4670 suits my need ? will it future proof for windows 7 based gaming ? ( currently I am playing in XP)

Yeah the 4670 would provide you with a performance increase over your 7300 GT. If the budget would stretch to it I recommend the 4770 because you like to have AA turned on with games and the 4770 is faster than the 4670.

The only thing that i would consider even close to future proof(even though there is no such thing) would be a 4890 or GTS 275 or better, personally i just upgraded from whats in my sig to a 4890 GPU and 940BE CPU about 10 min ago, i will get them friday. I was not happy with performance in newer games such as crysis and even fallout 3 at the res i wanted to play at(1080P) as i also wanted min 2xAA preferably 4-8xAA. And i had a 4830 OC to 800/900 which is better than a 4670 and would give most 4850's/GTS 250's at stock clock a run for there money. BTW at that res you will be CPU limited in most games, and 512MB of ram is really low nowdays, i know you dont want to hear this but i would spend $200-350 and get a new mobo/CPU/RAM/GPU and keep your current everything else(case, PSU, HDD's, Optical drives etc) This is if you want to be able to play new games for the next 2-3 years. If all you play is older games such as L4D or CSS etc then a 4670 will be fine, but if you plan to play crysis, fallout 3, even starcraft 2 or diablo 3 when they come out i would get something faster than a 4670. My .02

If you really are on a super tight budget dont bother with anything less than a 4770 or 4830. thay can both be had for under $100 i believe.

Na,don't throw another dollar into that machine. Like a previous poster said you need a complete system rebuild.
Athlon 3000 1.8
Broken ram slots = rebuild

only having 512MB of ram is not very good =/

That comp looks so old, I'm thinking it still uses agp.

If that's the case, I'd also recommend a new system rather than upgrading.

Even an HD4670 will be bottlenecked by the rest of the system.
I went from a 7800GT to HD4850 and while some games became more playable (e.g. Bioshock), others didn't so much (like Fallout 3) because my 2.2GHz AMD64 X2 was still holding me back.
Single core 1.8GHz is going to kill most of the performance improvement an HD4670 would offer, and 512MB RAM is going to do similar damage.

It's pretty much an all or nothing situation in terms of upgrades IMO.

Thanks a lot to all of you. It seems that I am in the verse of upgrade. Regarding the new Rig I am thinking about the following :

Mobo : Gigabyte GA-P31-S3G
Proccy : Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
GPU: Palit HD 4670 512MB GDDR3/Palit HD 4770
RAM : allready got 2gb Patriot 3200
PSU : Cooler Master 460W

what do you say

That 2GB PC3200 is probably DDR and not DDR2, so it wouldn't work.

Also, I'd advise getting a quad. You obviously don't upgrade often and a dual core is already holding a lot of gamers back.

Doesn't seem too bad for a low end rig. I recommend going with the 4770 if possible. The ram you have is DDR-400? The mobo you chose uses DDR2 ram. Just get yourself some new 2x2GB (4GB) DDR2-800 ram. It's not very expensive anyways, especially if you find rebates.

Thats a good cheap setup but to get the most from your dollar you want to overclock and that cpu has a low multy and might not play well with that board.

Cheapest! best bang for your buck system?

motherboard- Gigabyte Ga-G31M-es2l

cpu- e5200 (monster overclocker)3.5 easy with 12.5 multy even with cheap boards

Both for 112.00$ combo special at Newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?ItemList=Combo.190816

Match it with a 4770/4850/ or gts250 whatever is cheaper or avalable. about 110.00$

ram- G.Skill 4 gb 48$ shipped

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231122

Antec Earthwatts 500 watt (34 amp rail -in case u want to upgrade your video card in the future)) 70$ shipped

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817371007

Thats about 330.00$ Can't be beat.

Yes, Happy Medium's suggestion is perfect for a budget rig, even for Win7, with 1440x900 being no problem at all.
