That 128-bit bus really does hold that card back.
Even overclocked, it can't even match the bandwidth of my two-year-old 8800GT.

Guess there'd really be no point for me to spend $110 for one unless this card dies or something.
(And my card idles at 45C in an 80F degree room.)

Obviously an error in that program. 4770 @ 1000mhz memory has more bandwidth than 8800gt @975mhz.

8800GT to a 4770, I'd consider that to be a side upgrade which gives me a 10% to 20% increase in gaming performance.

Then just buy two of them at the same time

I'm just curious: why did you choose 2 x 4770 over 1 4890?

because it uses less power and cost less?

Can the same thing be done to a 4850? I've done the pencil mod for the GPU and got some good clocks out of it, but I'm a little concerned about doing a hard mod to the memory voltage. I'd love to be able to control it via software.

Sorry for hijack.

try finding a HD 4850 ASUS bios and flashing it. Then install ASUS Smart Doctor pretty sure that would work ^^

What are the temps on your card in idle and full load after that?. I only use 50 percent fan speed though because 100 is way to loud
Also why does your subvendor still say ATI it's suppose to say ASUS lol. Are you using stock cooler or a aftermarket cooler on your VGA?

This is madness!

:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q

Can it beat a 4870 at that speed? No wonder AMD doesn't want the partners to release overclocked versions yet...

I doubt it would be 4870 because lack of bandwidth. If only using core clock, it's probably need more than 1ghz core clock

I'll bet there are situations, particularly at lower resolutions without AA/AF, where the 4770 would win based on its raw GPU power alone. Certain games might also bring this about. IMO this would make a very interesting article...

82 is very hot; you should juice the fan speed. If that cools it to say 50-60C under load, then juice the volts to 1.3 and see if you can hit 1000/1000.

No, they had to go and neuter it by halving the bus width to 128, just to be sure it would not be a REAL bang-for-the-buck monster like it could have been.

AMD would not be able to make and sell the 4770 for $100 if it were 256 bits. Those bits really up the price of a card.
