well the whole point of running 2 cards is so you can increase the settings. at 1920x1200 with 2 512mb cards you basically are shooting yourself in the foot. the games that would need more than 1 4830 would likely also need more than 512mb at that res too.

But doesn't two 512 MB cards add up to 1 GB?

Yep, that's right the 4770 is already clocked faster than the 4830, so it should definitely outperform. I believe Guru3D also confirmed these results. As for the stock cooler, the 4850's cooler was pretty poor and some reports were that the 4830's was even worst in one of the hot deal threads. There was another one a month or two ago that discussed the cooler a bit, which is why I decided to wait and see if there was a passive 40nm 4750 or 4770 in the works.

In SLI/crossfire configurations, data from one card's memory is mirrored on the second ones. So, even though you have 2 GPUs working together, you only have available 512 mb since the other 512 mb of memory has exactly what's in the first one's. Data is not spread equally between the cards ram.

This is why people say that for SLI/Crossfire, you need to use cards with at least 1gb, so that you have a bigger frame buffer for your large resolutions/AA settings.
