I'm looking to pick one of these up relatively quickly. My question is there really a difference in which vendor I purchase from (HIS, Powercolor, Diamond, XFX, etc). I know many offer varying warranties, but if they offer the same clock speeds, what else is there? I guess I'm looking for the most reputable brand since I won't be waiting for too many specific reviews before purchasing one. Any help is appreciated.

Is that for sure?

Performance wise, they will all be the same at this point since they will all be reference specs. Overclocked cards and the like don't show up until later. That said, xfx has the best warranty, so they are usually the most desirable.

well you would think newegg would have it listed by the product description like they usually do but it is listed in package contents.

Man insanely tempting. I've got an 8800gts 640mb that is really starting to show its age at 1920x1200. Would really like 2gb, and still not sure between the 5870 or the 5850.... I suppose at 1920x1200 the 5850 would be a smarter choice.

Don't be surprised if you are right, and the 5870 around $350 from some OEMs. MSI prices have been mentioned in this range.

you dont need more than 1gb for at 1920x1200 as GTA4 would be the only game you could make go past 1gb at that res. also the 5850 would be a massive jump from what you have now. if your cpu is as old as that 8800gts 640mb then you will likely already be holding back even a 5850.

I wonder if someone will find a way to renable the disabled stream processors, like with the pixel pipelines in the old geforce 7 series.

Sapphire 5850's are on Newegg now. Sapphire usually makes pretty reputable cards...anyone have any problems or reasons not to go with the Sapphire brand? I'm thinking about ordering one tonight...

they all seem to be stock reference designs, quality should be about equal, just differences in warranty at this point Sapphire should be fine while they last

I really don't think the 5850 is really missing the disabled portions of the GPU, overclocking the core from 725 to 850+ and the memory from 4000 to 4800+ (they should have the same GDDR5 chips as the 5870s, so the memory should easily hit as high) will make up a greater % of the performance difference than enabling disabled shaders and TMUs.

That being said, I'm holding out for the ASUS model that allows for overvolting, 1GHz on the core and ~5200MHz on the ram = delish.

ug.. so any chance they will come down in price soon? I hate to buy one at $260 only to have it drop $30 in a month.
Also do you think and e6400 at 2.8 is enough to get something out of this card or should I put in a q9550 first?

Just got my XFX 5850 and installed it so far so good XFX 5850 Pictures

Length is about the same as the 4850 I'm replacing, but it?s a much heavier card, I was actually surprised how heavy it was.
I ran through a few laps in NFS Shift, performance isn't even comparable to the 4850 even with my e7200 @ 3.6ghz the performance increase so far is extremely good
went from about 35-40 FPS @1080p 2xAA no AF up to full 60FPS with 8xAA and 16xAF

Good to see XFX continuing use of the sturdy inner box.. a well protected card should the shipper fail to use adequate packing material. Nice AA boost to with that framrate boost. Damn nice card!

Poster before this one, yea I could see this card dropping a bit in price, but with no (next gen) competition, you never know. It's worth every penny of $259 though..

Waiting for Black Friday to get mine. I can keep limping along with my 8800GT 512, not long to go now...

This is definitely the sweet spot card for 1920x1200 users like myself. There's little question I'll be picking up one or two depending on Black Friday pricing.

Man that is nice. 8xAA, 16xAF at 1080p fluid 60FPS must look so unreal. I can only imagine.
