Infractions will continue to be meted out until morale improves, people WILL be happy....or else!

Now on topic: Anyone have an idea when Xbitlabs will have their review up? I'm assuming they'll cover crossfire as well. I'd like to add them to the spreadsheet and call it quits. There's a lot of data and most of it is pretty consistent. Plus when new drivers start rolling out that will change things anyways.

Did we all read the same reviews or what? The 6850 O/C and XF. Is the best performance deal I have ever seen. The 6850 have plenity of O/C headroom. Let us not forget The nv cards that come close to AMD 6000 in XF are highly O/Ced. O/C the 6850 in XF lets see how the NV 460 O/cs hold up. The 6850 is the best middle performance card I have ever seen . Than in XF its just gets better .

Just out of my own curiosity -

Anand's review shows a 100 watt difference at load between the two cards in the same setup. So 200 watts difference with SLI vs. crossfire, that is 0.2 kwh. I don't know how much energy costs in different parts of the US or the rest of the world but where I live, in the most expensive time of the year (summer), the cost of energy is 7.91 cents per kilowatt hour. So, at most, it's costing someone in my area 1.582 cents more per hour to run a gtx470 SLI setup while playing games than an hd6870.

Just food for thought. If my math is off there, please tell me how I am wrong.

Haha, I lol every time some brings this up...seriously anal people around for sure squabbling over a couple of cents an hour?

For YOU guys its a few cents per hour, for me its about $18 per hour. Now tell me that isn't enough to make you reconsider 470SLI over 6870crossfire. There was a reason I replaced my 4870 with a 5770. I might get a 6850 but it only uses about 20 less than a 6870. So right now, I'm not sure.

You do mean 18 cents right? If not you should quit gaming.

More power = more thermal energy = higher temperature = hotter room. My room is already hot enough for me. So anything that drops power is good for me.

I'm in the same boat here, my energy isn't cheap and it get's hot & humid both day & night in the summers. I have to set my rig up in the basement or blast the AC 24/7 to keep my PC from over heating. Let alone my room or work areas from climbing over 100F with 80%+ humidity.

Seriously cheap (or people who should get a job) are doing that.

However, there is a point that I have not seen raised here: energy efficiency for the sake of the environment.

I would rather use a part that was 100 watt less consumption at load, why? Using an extra 100 watts for 0 extra performance is akin to having an extra 100 watt light bulb on in the house that I do not need to have on while using the more efficient part. It is as if you are leaving the light on in your bathroom while you are gaming, every time you game. That is necessarily a waste. We are taught to turn off lights when we are not using them for a reason, and that is not simply because the electrical bill will be marginally more expensive.

So if more efficient parts can be had (power consumption wise), there should be an environmental motivation to go for those (assuming carbon footprint is the same), and this does not seem silly to me.

I am anxious to see how well the average 6850 overclocks and how it compares to the evga gtx460 FTW card.

5 hours a day (on avg. if you play more weekends maybe to offset), 30 days a week, x 12 months in a year, x2 years you might have a card.

in the end it might end up being a differnce of like 120$ or something. yes it looks small when its in cent/hour but eventually it ll add up over time.

Im sure people that have 4x 480 SLI and oc them to end up around 400watt pr card say the same thing. It only costs a few cent more pr hour than 5870 setup.... yeah but if your useing like 1600 watts on your GPUs x4 setup alone.

... think of the electric bill you ll get.

another thing....

more watt used => more heat in room (even if your gpu is kept cool by your cooler its blown out of the case into the room) => room temp. rise => you turn on A/C to get room cooler

evil sprial... that ends up costing you more in electrisity bills than you might think.

Bottom line is, less power for the same performance is a good thing. More power for nothing is a bad thing. I don't know why some people don't get this.

yeap... haveing very good performance/watt also means you can use cheaper coolers on your cards when you sell them (compaired to those that use more watts).

so in the end it also effects how much profits the card makers get.
There no reason not to make power effecient designs.
