Hail to the king, baby!

AMD chose a fancy PCB number to denote "leeeet" (elite), it did a similar word-play with "AUSUM", around the HD 6990. The card is using an AMD-rebadged PLX PEX8747 PCI-Express 3.0 48-lane bridge chip, which features "broadcast" features that makes it fit for dual-GPU graphics cards. Moving on to specifications, the HD 7990 features 1 GHz core clock speed, with 1250 MHz memory. The card has a total of 6 GB GDDR5 memory, 3 GB per GPU. It features completely-unlocked 28 nm "Tahiti XT" GPUs, with 2048 stream processors. It draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include one dual-link DVI, four mini-DisplayPort connectors. Slated for a "hard-launch" on April 17, AMD's Radeon HD 7990 6 GB "New Zealand" will target a price-point of US $849.

So it's actually slightly better then HD 7970 reference in crossfire at least the 1000MHz core vs. 925 reference. If the price is $850 that's ~$425 ea. which puts the pricing about where the performance is vs. the gtx 680.

Now to wonder what the gtx 690 will be and where it will be priced.

I'm surprised, I didn't expect dual tahiti to be even clocked the same as 7970 not to mention faster. It goes to show how conservatively 7970 is clocked. 850$ means 425 for a single card, much better value than 7970 at 550$.

I suspect that this may be fake (April 1st) but thats actually a good price if true, and its factory oc'ed on top of that.

I can't imagine two 1GHz 7970's running cool and quite with that tiny single fan.

Nor can I imagine AMD under cutting their own cards so badly, this is $250 cheaper than 7970 CF while being faster.

This is awesome. Depending on the overclocking on this card I might be snagging one of these. Or maybe 2

Maybe it foretells of upcoming price cuts? Its long overdue. I still think this whole thing is an April fools joke, though.

Probably a reaction to the 680. They know two 925 clocked Tahiti XT cores are not enough vs two 680 cores.

2x1000 would close the gap. I said this in the thread about the rumoured 690. Nvidia and AMD are going to have to chew into the dual 7970/680 buyers market to compete against one another with their dual GPU cards.

They could both manage to put 680SLI/7970CF on a stick and they'll have to in order to try to one up each other. If you're not fussy about dual-gpu cards you should be able to save some coin on an SLI/CF setup getting one of these cards if they end up turning out this way.

Remember how I got attacked for saying Crysis 1/2/wh/metro 2033 were slower on my 680 sli?

Oh hey, whats going on there.

Anyway, i'd say the 690 will be a better product unless AMD radically changes the cooler on the 7990. The 6990 cooler from all accounts was terrible, hopefully the 7990 doesn't mimic it.

2x1GHz 7970 would draw probably close to 500 watts wouldn't it? Can you imagine that tiny little fan trying to cope with that?

Haha

Would be nothing short of another 6990,unless the card happens to be dual 7950 cards. Then the msrp would be nearly that of 2 7950s anyways with a lower tdp.

I wager 2 oced 7950s will make up the 7990.

Now to wonder what the gtx 690 will be and where it will be priced.

Everything I've read seems to point to it being GK104 and available sometime in May. Pricing probably depends on whether or not they're using 680 parts or if they're harvesting dies for the 670. If production is constrained, they may go with whatever has more availability and base pricing off of that.

Much too expensive.

If it was real (and I doubt it is) its actually far cheaper than it should be. Its a dual GPU card that cost a few hundred less than two 7970's. Its even less than two 7950's.

It's not the size the fan, it's how you use it.

That said, I don't find it hard to imagine at all. My 7970 runs cool at 1050mhz at a cool 60C on air with quiet fans, 50mhz lower and it would be that much easier to keep cool. Admittedly, my 7970 has a dual fan setup, but a larger single fan with superior heatsink could do just as well.

probly because the 7970 shouldnt be a $549 card.
