The PowerColor card for $669 is actually quite a good deal. At that price, its cheaper than two HD7970 cards.

So looks like 7990 sold poorly. One thing I really dislike about AMD is how frequently they do price cuts on their products.NV's pricing strategy helps the consumer when he wants to resell.

GTX480 fell from $499 to $175-$225 on Newegg just 1.5 years after launch. Before that GTX280 fell from $649 to $280 once HD4890 launched at $259 just nine months later. What about GTX590's resale value? It tanked. On 28nm NV hasn't done anything of the sorts but this isn't any indication of NV's historical pricing either for the last 3-4 generations. HD7870 goes for $170 on Newegg which would imply that GTX580 that cost $500 just 2.5 years ago shouldn't sell for more than $160 used. Too many NV fanboys pay high prices for old NV cards. Frankly NV's existing line-up excluding 760 continues to be overpriced. It is AMD's price drops that help to ensure compute choices because otherwise you are getting rapped by 770 4GB, GTX780/Titan and GTX690 pricing. 780 is priced so far out of the realm of reasonability that just maybe HD7990's price drop to $670-700 will force NV to drop prices on 780 to $550. Price drops are good for us overall.

What do you think is going to be the resale value of GTX690/7990/Titan by August 2014? Probably half. Honestly anyone buying a $1000 GPU shouldn't even care about resale value. If they do, they cannot afford the card easily.

You're listing products that were replaced and EOL'ed RS.

It is somewhat painful to watch the resale value of my 7950s plummet without anything new really being introduced.

Double edged sword, had I waited I would have loved these recent price cuts and 7950s as low as $220...

Probably in the short term but in the long term no.It seems AMD has serious issues understanding the market.AMD,NV,Intel aren't charity, they don't force you to buy their products. If arguably the fastest card needs $300 price cut to become viable sheds very poor light on AMD IMO.Saw your edit, 690 still sells for ~$1000 which is great for consumers because they can still sell their card and grab some cash. It's not just about 7990, bought 7950DC II top for my brother at launch ~$470, after 2-3 months it was almost halved.

I thought the 7990 was released to compete with Titan. It was priced the same with more bang for your buck. Outside of the microstuttering issues it outperformed Titan by a good bit. Now it is doing the same thing for 350$ cheaper. If AMD could ever get their drivers in order this would force Nvidia to cut prices on Titan and the 780. That is GREAT thing for everyone. Well except Nvidia.

It is definitely not great for AMD at all. They have to do a lot of R&D to design these cards and as I mentioned they aren't charity. If 690 still sells for $1000 it should sell for $1000 period.

Wasn't the 690 a poor seller for nVidia? Pretty sure Titan despite being slower out sold it quickly.

To be realistic all the $1000 cards were just overpriced, Titan juts offered the DP which opened it up to more market sectors.

I don't know honestly. But since NV has done no price cuts regarding 690 it can't be selling that badly.

It sold poorly because of the well publicized problem with AMD multi-GPU setups. The timing of this price cut is peculiar considering they just released a driver to address this problem which transforms the 7990 into a viable option.

Ever since G80, ATI/AMD has been on the back foot. nVidia has better brand perception and people are just willing to pay more for nVidia cards, even if the gaming experience is identical (which in my own experience it has been). It will take a while to get back to the days of the X1800/X1900 when ATI was charging just as much if not more than nV was.

And dropping $300 off your premium gpu seems like a suicide honestly.

not when as soon as people hear they go bananas over it and start ordering . as seen by the powercolor 7990 being out of stock

IMO Other that the driver issue the 7990 had poor sales due to competition with itself. Currently the 7970 is about 350$ish and 7950's are overclocking to near 7970 performance for 250$. Why would anyone buy a 1000$ 7990 when you can buy 2 7970s for 700$? Or even get real close with 2 7950's @ 500$
On the other hand the 690 is 2 680's. The 680's are still 450-550. So there is actual value in buying a 690, thus no price drop necessary. If 680's drop to 350$ then you will see almost zero market for a 1000$ 690. The price would have to be on par with the current 7990 price or the price or two 680's.

If your willing to go used eBay is full of 690's for 600ish

My view is that now that frame pacing is starting to roll out... that dual Gpu configs will start to shine investment wise. I understand many hurdles exist but I think we are on the upswing.

I believe is that once those issues get ironed out.... AMD won't need to discount as heavily. With few exceptions they have remained the number 1 choice for budget orientated systems. Yes I am well aware Nvidia has done well.
At the same token AMD has done well in certain segments.

I think come 2-3 months down the line... things might look decidely different... time will tell

Sound good on paper but not in reality.

What kind of sucker is gonna buy them now? Why overpay for 690 if you can grab a cheap 7990?

For the 690 case... i think the 690 building quality(including the frame metering capabilities) and post-buying support are, compared to other cards on the market, a real lux.
690 took the 5970 place as the best 2GPU VGA.
