HD channels are all jarbled up

Yeah, we have Insight digital cable, and the few HD channels that we actually get either dont work (it says please wait, it will be available shortly, but never is) or it looks like garbage. Now, SOMETIMES i will be able to get 1 channel to work correctly. Also, we picked up a few HD channels before we switched to digital cable (our tv just picked them up) and they were FINE. (in fact, the same channels on digital cable mess up, where as they didn't before on regular cable).

I can't figure out what's causing this...I was thinking, the reciever gets pretty hot (the cable box that we need, or whatever) and its UNDER our dvd player. Perhaps its getting too hot to play HD channels correctly?

just a guess.

Anyone know anything about this so that we dont have to call insight about it?

What exactly are you seeing? If it's macroblocking/pixellation, it might be signal strength issues...however the STB getting hot sounds like it could be a problem too (though I've never had experience with one myself).

ummm....it probably is macroblocking/pixellation...though i'm not too sure what that is...it just looks terrible. maybe i'll post a pic up later.

Yeah, a pic would probably help. Also with some channels not being available at all, that could be a signal strength issue as well...

Since you said you picked up a few HD channels before you got the cable box, I'm assuming you have an HDTV with a built-in QAM (cable) tuner (so you were probably getting the locals in HD). Maybe you could try plugging in the cable directly to the TV and seeing if you can pick up any channels that way? If you get the same problems, it's probably signal strength or something else on the cable company's end, else it might be your cable box.

component, and its not the company, my cousin lives less than a couple miles away and he gets his through fine.

It could be that your box isn't working correctly, as that's what my screen looks like sometimes when it takes a second for the descrambling to catch up. Is your box output set to match your TV's spec (720p or 1080i)? The box may need to be reinitialized on Insight's network--they should be able to do that over the phone (I have Insight, and they reset my CableCard that way.)

Doesnt mean a thing if your cousin can get his fine, its the connection going to your house that matters. My HD channels would not come in when i first got the box...CAUSE: Squirrels chewed part way through the cable connected to the phon/power/cable pole. Had the guy come out and run a new cable from the box on the pole to my house and all was fine afterwords. If you call the company they can talk you through a signal strength test you can preform on the box.
