BUSINESS IDEA:
1. Register a catchy domain name and sign up for free webhosting. Or Blogger will work.
2. Claim you have a X2900XTX, X2900XT and a K10 processor
3. Fabricate benches for Crysis, Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Duke Nukem Forever and Team Fortress 2. Throw in a top-secret Gears of War port if you are feeling adventurous.
4. Win 1/3, Lose 1/3 and tie 1/3 of the benches against a 8800GTX
5. Sign up for Google AdSense.
6. If feeling particularly greedy, offer a K10 vs. Penryn vs. Conroe comparison
7. Watch the IntraWebs go crazy
8. PROFIT!

I'm not sure the optimization really means that much. I remember that tomb raider legend was optimized for nvidia but it still was faster on ati hardware at the time.
well I could be wrong, especially if R600 was extremely efficient on running DX10 code. And we know absolutely nothing about R600's performance under DX10. It seems to me though, that Nv hardware is fast under DX10, even on an early build of the game and under immature drivers - referring to that Crysis DX10 demo that's been floating around for quite a while. The DX10 version of the game is about optimization, I hope it'll be possible to run both the DX9 AND DX10 versions under Vista, for comparison.

Oh boy, stop talking out of your ass. You dont know jackshit about either cards DX10 performance. Crysis demo my ass... just because some chinese site made that story up and this turkish site mimics the effort to generate site hits - get real.

calm down tiger. i think he meant the cyrisis demo showed by the devs. its said they were running a single 8800gts in DX10 mode and it looked fantastic and performed amazing too.

having played the demo myself on a quad core intel cpu w/ a 8800gtx, it looked fantastic, but it certainly slowed down and got real choppy in some parts. This was before optimazations and whatnot, so performance should get alot better; but it defineately wasn't AMAZING performance.

Well considering that Vista drivers are unstable as a straw bridge, and cryengine 2 hasn't been optimized, it was really AMAZING performance.

You cant compare mature vs newly released drivers as there is still probably a bit of room for driver improvement.

Visual quality may make a difference as much as frame rates. Its not always framerate.

There is nothing about the settings on the cards or driver pictures so I suspect they are fake used to generate traffic to unknown sites.

I'll digress for a moment and assume these benches are real.

Why isn't this impressive? If ATI is able to come out with a product that meets or exceeds the competition in performance at the same price point, then that seems impressive to me.

Am I missing something?

Because you could have had the same performance six months ago if you hadn't waited. Personally I hope the card is much faster so I can sell mine and go for the R600.

Lesser video memory though.. hmmmm.

I don't know what language it is but it seems scandinavian or maybe ice landic?

The take away is that it is a little slower at 3dmark06 but somewhat faster at Crysis.

It seems that as the rez gets higher and the AA and AF are ratcheted up, the R600 and G80 are neck to neck... Not as impressive as I thought.

Where'd they get ahold of the Crysis demo anyway? :disgust:

Performance alone means nothing IMO.
Price is the important factor.

indeed while i can see the 8800's pricing coming down (if the new card is gonna be $399) to meet AMD's product, if it doesnt, the R600 looks canny good for the price..little slower, but not by any descernable amount and you paying less

BTW

Gibbo from overclockers.co.uk has said he'll have R600 in plentiful supply on launch day.

he's already had hold of a HD2900 XT 512 for testing, but i think he's sent it back now.

Please note that this is the XT (not XTX) version being compared to the GTX.

your obviously not familiar with nvidias "the way it was meant to be played" program. games on this program are indeed optimized for nvidia hardware....and nearly all of them run better on ATi

on the flip side the same seems to be apparent for ATi's equivalent program...nvidia cards run them better.

its crazy
