it is clear AMD can't compete at the high endfrom Anandtech
"With the Gx2 we didn't have any trouble installing the driver and getting things rolling. The experience was smooth and clean as far as that was concerned.

Stalker performance is amazing! Of course with out a great monitor there's not much point.

Good job Nvidia

When Nvidia fix the 8 series performance on UT 2004 in XP maybe we'll talk about transparency and stability of Nvidia 8 series drivers.

EVGA and other reference Geforce 9800 GX2 is significantly faster than both 8800 Ultra and Radon 3870 X2.In Crysis with FSAA and Aniso EVGA 9800 GX2 is more than 100 percent faster than Radeon 3870 X2
EVGA 9800 GX2 is about 33 percent faster than 3870 X2 in WiC.
In Company of heroes with the max details Overclocked EVGA 9800 GX2 card scores 54 percent better than 3870 X2 and 52 percent better than Ultra.

Quite a whuppin.

Did anybody see the power draw numbers from Hardocp? It is amazing how the 3870x2 that runs 20-40% slower can draw more power at load.

Not surprising as it's based off the R600.

kinda what i expected in one of my two scenarios

- it has to be a mini-performance monster to justify $600 or else NVIDIA would look really [really] bad. That GT200 may be "waiting" is beside the point {as with 7900GTX shortly replacing 7800GTX/512m in the past}

i almost got one last night .. but Keys saved me with his suggestion for my rig - i.e dump my CrosssFired 2900p and put a 3870x2 in it's place with my 2900XT ... should be a *solid* performance increase and i *bet* 3870x2 drops in price

after that for me ... r700 and then shortly GT200x2 [wanna bet? ]
-i will play with Sli .. soon, i hope

It's a shame you did not have the foresight to get a SLI motherboard from the start.

Then for just $300 (or so) you could have a setup that would pretty much take on anything AMD has to offer.

9600GT SLI

If I fall into $300 that is exactly what I would do.

Although I do not have the cash (or connections) to upgrade right now :frown:

sorry man ... personal preference here

imho nForce MBs leave much to be desired compared to intel's ... i won't give up O/C'ing and other joys for SLi when i have a better solution with CrossFireX and the ability to mix 'n match my GPUs ..

oh, i didn't look yet - can GX2 run dual monitors?

and i believe my Tr-Frankenfire of 2900xt+3970xt would easily beat your SLi'd GT pair in most scenarios .. heck, i have a pretty good chance of getting into GX2 "territory" at 16x10
---bang for buck, AMD wins again

So in summary: e-peen card with the usual SLI drawbacks (micro-stutter, some titles not scaling as well as others, wacky multi-monitor support, etc). Ability for enthusiasts on Intel chipsets to play around with SLI, albeit at a hefty price premium.

Nothing unexpected here. It's the fastest sandwich card you can buy (although CF is significantly more flexible -- it runs on high quality chipsets from AMD or Intel, allows you to use 2, 3 or 4x equivalently performing GPUs from different generations, etc. Saying CF is less flexible is simply bogus). For someone with a 30" monitor the extra $200-$300 to drive it is lost in the noise anyway. Ultra high end is never a good value. Never has been, never will be.

I'll just 'suffer' with my 8800GT until the next gen.

Edit: has anyone benchmarked this bad boy on P35 chipset boards yet? It's nice that it runs on nv chipsets, but what about the whole reason for this card to exist -- Intel chipsets?
