So MSI has an affordable HDCP ready card. It supports HDCP over DVI as well as Purevideo HD and is well under $200:

Then I read this article:

Basically, the Xbox360 may never support HDMI or even need to. Plus HDCP encryption may never be used and full resolution over analog will be possible.

It's amazing what a frenzy HDCP caused and yet it may never even get used. I assumed this all along as only one studio ever announced support for it and the current HD-DVD & BD movies are not using it.

Now we just need affordable HD-DVD\Blu-ray PC drives.

Over all the article doesn't really say anything new and isn't even really accurate. It gets it's terms mixed up. The ICT doesn't require HDMI it requires HDCP which can be done over dvi, hdmi or several other types of digital connections. I think The ICT requiring HCDP largely remain off and will already be ineffective. Sony ps 3 might be a factor in that but currently I think it's going to do pretty poorly due to the very high price tag and won't have nearly the hoped impact of creating a large install of blueray that sony hopes. The lack of hdcp on the lower end model isn't going to be the big thing keeping movie mfg away from the ICT. It's the HD tv population out there with out HDCP support. The HD market is already small enough and cutting out a large portion of your potential customers just isn't wise for anyone trying to develope a market. Those hd tv are not going to go away in 4 or 5 years either. Combined with the fact that hdcp has already been cracked means I don't see it every having much use.

The XBox360 doesn't need to support HDMI or HDCP (well unless they do infact later release an HD-DVD add-on for the 360. And even then, it would only affect you if you want to watch a HDCP protected movie). MS controls the platform so they can do whatever they want with it. They really don't have a need to implement HDCP. The movie studio are the ones pushing HDCP.
